Time to update the sign at the border:

Time to update the sign at the border:
“Welcome to the United States. It has been [del]17[/del] 0 days since the last school shooting in this country.”
And the death toll rises …
oh, wait …
Funny that the good guy with a gun did not stop the bad guy with a gun. Everybody lived, including the helpless sheep in the gun-free fold.
Welcome to the Pit, coward.
Going by what we actually see happening, it’s more likely to be “armed citizen kills 3 bystanders in attempt to shoot man mistaken for robber”.
Which incidents, in particular, lead you to that conclusion?
I have tried to keep the discourse above the level of ad hominem attacks, name calling and profanity. But since the moderators don’t seem to care:
Asshole. Shithead. Retard. Wanker. Baby Diddler. Scumbag. Dog Fucker. Crack Whore. If you dared to talk to my face the way you do on this board, I would [deleted for personal threats]. You can vomit up all the roundworm-laden puss you call “your opinion” that you want; but I have gotten tired of taking the high ground in civil discourse, only to have a syphilitic monkey keep biting my ankles. From here on out I am going to be exactly as civil to you as you are to me.
Careful. You might give him a bad day. We don’t want the tragedy that could engender.
Why would the mods care about things (ad hominem attacks, name calling, and profanity) that don’t violate the rules?
Rules that you seem to have a basic understanding of “[deleted for personal threats]”.
CMC fnord!
ackk, we have to do something, anything!!! The last highly publicized murder was committed with a green gun!!! We have to ban green guns!! If you dont agree with me, its like you wanted the murder to happen!!!
You call that evidence? Hey look everyone, we saw a reduction in UK suicides at the same time that we started phasing out the primary method of suicide in the UK so OBVIOSULY, removing a popular method of suicide is responsible for cutting the suicide rate in half. Similarly we put up safety railing on a bridge that was frequently used for suicide and 5 years later we saw a reduction in suicides in that county.
If that is your standard of evidence then here is some more evidence:
America has a suicide rate that is DEAD FUCKING AVERAGE for developed nations, FAR LESS than the gun free Utopia of Japan and yet Japan has a much higher suicide rate than America. Do you think that our resting state suicide rate would be significantly lower in the absence of guns? Do you have ANY proof of that?
About half of all suicides committed in America are committed by guns. Are you saying that our suicide rate would drop by half if criminalized guns? Would it even drop at all over time or would people figure out that you can kill yourself by hanging and jumping off a tall building.
The article you are citing to is not a study or even evidence, it is anecdote.
Here are a few:
Texas ‘good guy with a gun’ shoots carjacking victim in head — then runs away
Officer ambushed by gunfire shoots back at wrong person, injures bystander
Honorable mention for sheer stupidity:
Michigan woman shoots at shoplifters in Home Depot car park
Honestly, when I was pulling these out of google, most of the hits were from police shooting the wrong people. There were surprisingly little results of citizens shooting the wrong people.
u mad bro?
Let me ask you: what kind of information would sway your opinion? A study? 10 studies? Or would nothing make you rethink your opinion?
The more you poke fun at people getting killed, the more obvious it is to even the casual reader that you need to be locked up.
You have no fucking idea what that even is. That’s another aspect of your internet fantasizing, the same problem that makes you think you’re a tough guy with a gun who’s ready to defend liberty and rights from the tyrants, instead of just another fatso loser with a beer and a laptop.
Is that dog shit I smell, or is ElvisL1ves talking again?
How odd that sounds coming from a fellow who takes obvious joy in deaths because he thinks that means he was right on the internet.
Still having trouble with coherence, I see.
You know, you are starting to look disturbingly sok-ish.
Why would you think that?
The point I think you are trying to make is that guns are more than a mere method of suicide, like hanging or poisoning, it is a contributor to suicide. You seem to be implying that there is some significant number of suicides that are occurring here that would not occur if guns were not legally available.
So if you can show me that the US (which is virtually awash in guns) has a higher suicide rate than countries that don’t have guns, that would convince me that legal access to guns are a driver of suicides.
Don’t get me wrong, I (like you) saw the high incidence of suicides using a firearm and thought that guns might be increasing the number of suicides in this country. Then I looked at the suicide rate in other countries and it became pretty obvious that I couldn’t just look at the percentage of suicides committed with a firearm and conclude that it elevated our suicide rate. People in other countries seemed to be committing suicide at equally high rates in countries that have virtually no guns at all.
So, if you can show me that we actually have a much higher suicide rate than a peer group of countries, then I could be swayed but as far as I can tell, suicide rates seem to be more correlated to population density, climate, the dominance of Catholicism, social views, socioeconomic factors, etc than the prevalence of guns. I have no doubt that the availability of guns makes some sort of difference at the margins but you can’t really say “Half of all suicides are committed with a firearm so we could significantly reduce suicides by banning guns”
Yesterday here in Tennessee, a high school student didn’t want to get out of bed for school in the morning. Hey, I sympathize. I hit the snooze button every morning too. But instead of the snooze button he got out a gun and shot his family. But I guess the only thing that stops a bad kid with a gun is a good parent with a gun. That’s what they get for making their breakfast table a no-firearms zone.
