I would hope not. That kid could have easily killed her, or himself, or worse, me.
More seriously – you have a loaded, safety-off, condition-whatever means ready to fire, M1911 just lying unsecured on the car seat…
…why?
WTH threat environment was she in that it could not be securely holstered and safety-on? That she needed to be ready to grab and fire w/o even bothering to flip the safety?
Rough neighborhood! I’d move.
BTW I have always been fine with people who comply with CCW requirements, they had shown to be mostly conscientious rule-following owners. Though of course you can’t catch all the fools, some would slip through the system but in general proper permit holders are not a threat.
I’m more concerned, however, about the recent apparent drive towards establishing a “normalization” of anyone being armed anywhere, anytime, including permit-free open carry by the untrained. 'Cause THAT seems to me like it will multiply the odds of the careless or incompetent doing careless and incompetent things.
Petition: Allow open carry at the Cleveland GOP convention
Whoosh, or not? Maybe someone wiser than I can determine that.
It goes on to say all three remaining candidates favor open carry.
Would it be cool to have a real, on the convention floor, shoot-out between Trump and Cruz supporters?
Imagine the headache the Secret Service would have. The eventual nominee would probably have give his acceptance speech via video link.
Hilarity.
According to this report, she succumbed to impatience:
Still negligence, but I can understand it; constantly unholstering/reholstering a firearm is a big pain in the… well, the back, in this case.
Open Carry law allows murder spree.
Kinda tough call. On the one hand, the N.R.A. must be just busting with pride over this one. One Primary Target eliminated, two Secondary Targets eliminated.
Then there’s the added bonus of the Defender of the 2nd Amendment Who Did Nothing Wrong At All being shot to death by the police- he gets martyred. Score !
Tough call because this almost belongs in that Positive Gun News thread.
Only downside? The American Exercising His 2nd Amendment Rights won’t be attending the Republican National Convention. You know. Where he could Open Carry again.
Gosh, what a bummer.
Fucking insane murdering shits. ![]()
I saw nothing indicating that open carry contributed to this. As far as I can tell from the news report, people started calling in alarms to the police almost immediately.
You missed the 1:30am shooting at a party, because, I guess, no one has died so far. Fun place that Colorado Springs. I thought it seemed like a nice place in '75, but what did I know.
Was that before or after the first gunshots?
"Gruesome video footage has surfaced showing the moment a Georgia daredevil lost his leg shooting a semiautomatic rifle at a lawn mower packed with several pounds of deadly explosives.
David Pressley, 32, can be seen moving closer and closer to the explosive target as he peppers it with bullets. Moments later, the lawn mower suddenly explodes, unleashing a plume of smoke and shrapnel.
Authorities said one piece of shrapnel struck Pressley, severing his leg from below the knee, according to ABC affiliate WSB-TV."
Some hyper-ventilating wording in the story but still crazy.
Great that they taped this; blood on the camera lens. Truly dumb idea copying what has become a popular? internet video thing. You can buy explosives at sporting goods stores that are sensitive to bullet impacts. Just wow. Guy will live. I worked with ammo and explosives for 35+ years and would never try anything this stupid.
Another quote from story:
“Lydiah Mays, one of Pressley’s neighbors, told WSB-TV that she heard the gunshots but wasn’t concerned until she heard the explosion, which shook her nearby home.”
Shooting no problem, WTF, but explosions get her attention?
Dunno; updates as more detailed information comes available?
Is shooting up the visitor center in the US Capitol building stupid enough? One officer took a slug but is not thought to be seriously injured. The Second Amendment appears to have escaped unharmed.
Man carries weapons into church in Tennessee, an open carry state. And gets arrested. Oh, yeah, he’s black.
Here’s a short funny documentary on America’s fascination with guns. One legislator has introduced a bill making it a Class D Felony for any lawmaker to introduce any bill limiting the use of guns.
Can you find an article on this story that’s NOT shitty? I’d love to know if, for example, the church in question has a blanket ban on firearms or not (as the author admits he couldn’t be bothered to find out)
google
tennessee man arrested for bringing a gun into church
for hits.
Sorry, I missed this earlier.
My point was that if you’re trying to disprove the view that “carrying a gun while keeping a constant eye out for bad guys will result in a bias towards gun use”, you might do better than to say that your target population has a lower rate of shooting people than police officers, whose job it is to carry a gun while keeping a constant eye out for bad guys. The “general population” comparison is more relevant, so well done to you.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that concealed carry permit holders were “secret psycho killers” but if it makes you feel better to make up pretend views for me, please go right ahead. But for the record I don’t think all CCPH are trigger-happy paranoids. That does not, in itself, negate my original point.
I remain unconvinced that the majority of the folk pushing that petition are actually Republicans wanting to carry guns at the convention. Every person I’ve seen promoting it has been doing so with the intent to highlight a perceived Republican hypocrisy about wanting guns to be allowed everywhere except at their own gatherings. It’s a bit of political nonsense.
Where?
From here:
Just wanted to add that, with all his talk of protecting Constitutional rights, he would have felt right at home in the ol’ USSR.
OK, so the point you are trying to make is that while the guys that have CCW permits are more law abiding than the general population, they might be predisposed to something. What is that something?
