Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

Nobody wants to rape any toddlers, Elvis. Especially not this year.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the map in that article.

Really? That’s genuine improvement for you then. Congratuations! Are you confident enough yet to say you would never do such a thing or is that too ambitious just now?
My day has been okay. Unexpected expense due to a flat tire, but still okay.

Fantasizing is all you dare do anymore, given how often toddlers are packing these days, right?

Pity you’re still not seeking help.

So as a former FFL, what happened to your records when you gave up your FFL?

The difference is that FFL records don’t help you keep track of private sales.

FYI, I support gun registration (particularly handgun registration) and licensing.

When I decided not to renew my license, I packed those records up and shipped them to the BATFE as per regulations at the time, 1991. What they did with them, I could not say.

I still don’t know how we get to a situation where confiscation at the federal level becomes a real possibility.

I don’t either, actually. But that seems to be the reason always given for why registration is bad.

My point being there is already a sort of registration now, and a recent ATF ruling has now said that FFL records can be kept electronically, so that will make getting FFL records even easier in the future.

They also don’t keep track of illegal sales, and stolen guns and whatnot. So?

A law was just passed in TN, allowing staff and faculty at colleges and universities to carry guns. All in aid of keeping students safe, should there be a crazed gunman or hostage situation. What say ye?

Was any sort of training mandated?
edited to add: Are the schools allowed to overrule the law and ban the use by the staff and faculty, or do they have to let them carry now?

Guns make people stupid. Education is supposed to do something akin to the opposite of that. Teachers, at least, probably should not be carrying guns, since stupid teachers are not a good idea.

Consider the shooting at Seattle Pacific University: the gunman was stopped with pepper spray. While reloading. More guns may or may not be the answer for more guns. There do seem to be alternatives for defense.

And eventually, don’t all of these records end up centralized at the federal level?

We have had a federal registry on NFA firearms for over 80 years and we have had some liberal administrations between then and now and somehow people on that registry have been able to keep their guns.

Oh but it does help keep track of those things.

If your gun is stolen, you have to report your gun stolen.

If your gun is registered you have to report any sale otherwise the cops might have some questions for you when the gun you illegally sold to some criminal shows up at a crime scene somewhere.

Just the faculty and staff?

Meh, doesn’t bother me. As stated previously, it would be nice if the state provided funds for training.

I don’t think anyone said that guns are the ONLY means of defense. They are sometimes the best means.

Pardon me for being lame, but this entire fucking thread is my cite. 6998 posts in 39 months. How goddam much more do you want?

Very rarely, I contend. Almost every other means is better most of the time.

Say…you don’t suppose that it could actually be that stupid people sometimes have guns, do you? You know, kind of like how you have the internet. Your entire posting history everywhere is my cite.
