My understanding is that a gun without drop safety that I dropped on its side does not fire.
There are two ways that a dropped gun can fire.
It gets dropped on its hammer and the impact with the ground drives the firing pin into the cartridge and the bullet fires in an upwardly direction
It gets dropped and the guy that drops it tries to catch it before it hits the ground and it b its trigger and the gun goes off in whatever direction the gun as pointed when it gets caught.
Scenario2 is much more likely than scenario 1. And is almost certainly the case if someone that is more that a couple of feet away got shot in the leg.
I’d presumed that ElvisL1ves’s post was a screed against gun ownership. Since cops will always have guns, I meant what changes to gun laws does he imagine would have prevented this?
Prosecute for negligent homicide anyone who whose gun kills a child. Like most laws that punish negligent behavior, the intent is to prevent the next tragedy, not the last one.
You presume incorrectly, as usual, given the intellectual limitations that keep you from recognizing any view that does not coincide with your own psychosis, widely shared though it is.
No, cops do not always have guns ready to hand, at all times, available even to their own children, even off duty.
But you’ll never get this stuff about the value of human life, will you? You can’t. That part of the brain that normal people have just does not work in yours.
Cops always have guns because we have these gun laws that put guns in the hands of every-fucking-body-and-their-sister. Most British police do not have to carry guns around everywhere because the Brits have sensible gun laws.
You know we already have those laws right? Child endangerment, negligent homicide, etc. This may be the 20th time that this has been pointed out but every time a child dies due to the negligence of a gun owner allowing a young child access to a loaded gun, someone says “hey, there oughta be a law against that”
With all due respect, how much do you imagine adding a jail sentence will do to prevent an accidental death of a child will do that the prospect of a dead child will not? For the father and mother of a child at least?
You are clearly enough of a braindead maroon that you desperately do need to have your guns confiscated. We do not need your level of stupid going around armed.
I am really trying to give you credit for being simply unable to understand, rather than accusing you of routine dishonesty. You would do well to accept that gesture.
The point, since you’re unable to get it, is that no one can be *absolutely *trusted with the power of death. No one. If you were able to understand the value of life, you would understand that too.
