I was actually referring to the explicit bloodlust in that post, not the gun-lovers’ pretense that it’s simply about self-defense against Bad Guys. But you’re right about vigilantism too, of course.
I do wonder how publicized it would be if the average gun owner leaves their gun in the bathroom. Would the bar even play back the tapes (if they have them), would there be any sort of actual investigation, would this have made national news. Would they even report their stupidity to the bar or to the police?
Just as for every toddler that gets shot, there’s probably dozens of stories that we never hear about of a toddler playing with a loaded weapon where thankfully no one gets hurt, for every story we hear of a cop or a teacher leaving their gun behind, there’s probably dozens of stories of some nobody misplacing his gun in public.
I have yet to understand how liberals reconcile the cognitive dissonance of embracing multiculturalism while overlooking the profoundly illiberal attitudes of traditional muslim societies.
If that is true, then I suspect it is because you actively do not want to understand how someone can be condemned for what they do, but not for who they are. This is something that reactionaries like yourself on the right seem to have much trouble in grasping, but I suspect it is not because you are just too stupid to understand such a simple concept, but that you delight in showing off your willful ignorance as if it somehow should impress anyone with your intolerance for anything different from what you are comfortable with. Are comments like those virtue signalling for bigots, letting all the other hateful fucks know that you are on their side or something? Now that the abuse portion of the response to this has been covered, let’s unpack the reality of this. Liberals support freedom of religion. Not “freedom of religion” in the way conservatives currently use it, which is “claiming that one’s bigotry and persecution of others is justified by one’s Christian beliefs”, but rather the freedom of everyone to worship as they please to the extent it doesn’t harm anyone or infringe on the freedom of others to do the same. So we don’t automatically lose our shit just because someone is Muslim.
Liberals also oppose homophobia, which is no more or less intrinsic to Islam than it is to Christianity. That homosexuality is currently tolerated much more in Christian-predominant countries than in Muslim-predominant ones has nothing to do with “traditional” Christianity or Islam and everything to do with how much success liberals have had in those countries in promoting basic human rights. Conservative Christians in all countries, and certainly in the US, have never stopped their efforts to persecute homosexuals at home and abroad (let’s not forget the right-wing evangelical groups who tried to get the death penalty applied to gays in Uganda, and who have been supporting the pogroms against gays in Eastern Europe); that doesn’t mean that liberals who support Christianity are experiencing cognitive dissonance either.
So in short: saying that people can worship as they want but they’re not allowed to persecute others does not constitute “cognitive dissonance”. If you are still struggling to understand that, that is not evidence of failings on the part of liberals. However, you might also ponder why conservative Christians only seem to care about homosexuals when they can use them to bash Muslims, and spend the rest of the time advocating anti-gay policies remarkably similar to those that conservative Muslims espouse.

A responsible gun owner in suburban St. Louis had a few drinks (BAC 0.148), gathered up a pistol, rifle, and shotgun, and went out to his back yard to exercise his fundamental right to bear arms. He fired into the trees behind his house, which just so happen to also border a city park. He squeezed off approximately 115 rounds before he was arrested. Luckily, no one was injured.
I hope his militia uses this as a teachable moment and reinforces proper target selection and judicious use of precious ammo at their next training muster.
He must have stolen those guns, since we all know criminals don’t use legally purchased weapons.
