The thing about mental health care is if you want help, there can be many options available. If you don’t, you usually cannot be forced into it.

Hmm, tried to get one of my sons into inpatient care once when he was suicidal. He didn’t have insurance (it was before the healthcare over haul such as it is). We were told if we had 5000.00 dollars they’d check him in. Since we didn’t we were sent to the ER, sat there for hours, and eventually sent home. That bill took a very long time to pay, and they did shit all for him. He’s better now, but it was a bad, bad time. US healthcare sucks, it sucks less now, but it still sucks.

The Obama rule that Trump nullified had added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their financial affairs to the national background check database.
While I agree that the former should be on the prohibited list, Aunt Bea having a Home Shopping Network addiction should have no bearing on purchasing a firearm.

Hours before a U.S. Army reservist who sources said had mental health symptoms allegedly shot and killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday, the U.S. Senate approved an amendment that would scale back background check requirements for some veterans and service members with mental health issues.
The amendment was authored by Republican Sens. John Kennedy and Jerry Moran, who had concerns that veterans could lose gun rights. It prohibits the Department of Veterans Affairs from reporting certain veterans to the National Criminal Background Check system when their finances are being managed by a conservator at the VA.

I’m so glad he didn’t go through with it. I’m sad for his mom and brother; he’s so young. I don’t understand why this keeps happening, or in this case, almost happening.
My oldest step-daughter travels all over the states as a contracter/consultant for safety compliance for different industry clients. She was supposed to be in Lewiston Maine last Wednesday. Because she had been out of the country for a couple weeks she asked to do it virtually. I was really glad that she didn’t go. She probably would have just been trapped there as she doesn’t go bowling or to bars while she’s working, but I would have worried about her being in a hotel during the lock down. This crap just sucks.

An American lawyer is accused of shooting and killing two environmental protestors in Panama who were part of a group blocking a highway, according to reports.
Kenneth Darlington, 77, is accused of approaching the group, who were blocking a highway in Chame, a district west of Panama City, before firing his gun on Tuesday afternoon, according to a report from Newsroom Panama. One protestor died at the scene, while the other died in the hospital, the outlet reported.
