Clearly an NFL team is a great source of revenue. However in regard to the OP, you can’t buy Lombardi Trophy, you have to win it, and that billion dollars is just the entrance fee to get a chance to compete. Billionaires tend to be pretty impressed by things money can’t buy, seeing as how there are so few examples of that.
Possibly explainable as “We made it to the SB - shows we’re a legitimate top-level team whose fans will now willingly pay top-level prices.”

That’s a good point. The people who can buy an NFL team have passed the point where they can feel any sense of accomplishment out of making more money. They need a new non-financial arena to compete in.
