This isn’t the first time it has happened but today just happened to be the latest.
Asshat commissar Goodell awards the Vince Lombardi trophy to the Super Bowl winner and who does he give it to? The lame dick owner who has nothing except for money.
Who does Goodell not bother to mention when awarding the trophy? The players and coaches. The owners, the fans, yada, yada, yada, but no mention of the coaches or players.
Fuck the NFL. Their priorities are so fucked up they only want to rip off taxpayers to build stadiums and treat their employees like meat on a hook. The NFL players have the worst collective bargaining agreement of any major sport but the NFL generates the most revenue. Then, when the trophy is awarded, the players are secondary as if the owner won it on his own.
Take a clue from the NHL. Award the trophy to the team captain and let the players parade it in front of the fans.
Guys, Sparty just lost a grand on the game. Cut him some slack. He’s obviously not in his right mind right now. Check out the Springsteen thread for proof.
Actually, i can sort of get on board with this rant.
Yes, i know the owner is, well, the owner of the team. But i think it would be far better if the championship trophy were handed to the team captain or, perhaps, the head coach. But preferably one of the players, just like they do basically everywhere, in every sport, except the United States.
I realize i’m pissing into the wind on this issue, but i’ve always found the trophy presentation one of the least-endearing aspects of American sporting championships.
I’m sure the Steeler players appreciate your concern for their self-esteem.
However, I am also sure, knowing how the players feel about the Rooneys, that to a man they would have no problem whatsoever with Dan Rooney being the first to receive the trophy. Anyone saying otherwise knows nothing about professional football in America.
