    • does this mean all the “smart” and lazy asses have to stay home when the party starts?

    • it seems like some people hope too much that entering a lions den during diner time means their invited for ribeyes and flank steaks…

Hi, @bayleef , and welcome to the straight dope message board. I know the names of the forums can be a little confusing, but “mundane pointless things i must share” is a very broad forum where people post about their reactions to the world and observations thereof. (Including a bunch of stuff that’s not at all mundane or pointless. This is where posts about ongoing natural catastrophes go, for instance.) Your post seems like a better fit for it then for great debates, as it didn’t look like you were trying to start an argument.

So i moved it.

Thank you! I will work at this I am very new. Not at all trying to start an argument. Was only touching on the job markets and legal issues therein down in Texas. It is a growing issue that (specifically in the Restaurant and Hospitality industry, but also the construction and some federal and state positions that without Texas would cease to be what good name we do hold) employers are not paying the employees overtime and in some cases recruiting illegal immigrants, working them to the bone, not paying them, and reporting those who notice and choose to speak up to ICE who them overcrowd our jails with these families as they wait to be deported. My case is not extreme like this, but I do have several checks showing excessive overtime (in some cases double overtime +) and only getting paid $3 dollars an hour. I obviously worked my tail off to have the owners promote me to assistant management when they needed me to fill in. Still the hiring manager and payroll signee refused to pat me overtime (which would make my pay the 4.50 an hour…) and proceeded to tell me a blatant lie that the state does not require them to pay me overtime if shared hours between the two establishments (the restaurants are literally in the same parking lot and owned and paid under the same funding. This oil both untrue and extremely illegal. And I would have never known had the pandemic not hit when it did,. I was taking care of my partner who at the time was a temporary paraplegic with no use of his arms and out of work. I was holding down a 1000 dollar rent all bills and groceries plus his kids expenses when he stayed with us.
Yet the state seems to take their time in processing this claim. I have half a mind to appeal all the way to the supreme court. Ive already touched base with federal government to take action. It has been a 6 month headache. I though this post was a more positive way to rant on the subject. Thank you for the redirection and understanding responses.

Hahaha I have been the child of two Licensed carriers for 33 years now. Very familiar with this law.
