Stupid people REALLY piss me off

Well you do sound fairly reasonable, although I choose to disagree with your logic regarding the fence. As for getting sued if the dog bites someone who is on your property, I find that nearly impossible to believe. If so, you have some really screwed up laws in Vermont.

At any rate I’ll get off your case now, please let us know how it turns out. And I do hope your neighbors get a clue and start to take responsibility for their dog…

Thanks! We spoke with our attorney and he feels we have a good case. He’s also going for removal or destruction of the dog as it’s history is full of aggressive behavior. I hate the dog may have to be destroyed being an animal lover but I kind of expected it. I’ll keep everyone posted on the neighborhood saga.

Ok, I didn’t read the last few posts where it seemed there was an argument of some sort between the OP and SkyBum.

But here’s my take on the Rabies Vaccination.

I live in Toronto, so Rabies Vaccinations didn’t cost me a thing.

Bowert is correct in saying that the animal in question be monitored/quarantined for a ten day period to see if any inkling of Rabies symptoms is apparent would justify not getting the vaccination.

I wasn’t so lucky in the ten day quarantine from the cat that bit me. I was volunteering at a soup kitchen and a lady brought a cat and a dog (well not lady more like a young woman, may be in her teens). The dog was a pitbull but friendly and didn’t cause me any damage, but the cat was psychotic. I knelt to pet the cat and talk to the girl to start some kind of conversation and the next thing i knew the cat had my hand in its mouth. There wasn’t any real pain from the bite. Although the cat did get a good grip, as a yanked my hand free the damage was done. My left hand was gouged and bleeding. I didn’t worry at all. Then I started talking to some of the supervisors and helpers and they said I should go to the doctor’s. Now, I got really worried.

piece of shit SDMB msg board ate a shitload of typing…

so to sum up all that was lost.

tetanus shot first day at doc’s. doc tells me to go find cat. went to church where they had the dinner and sleep in type thing only to find out the girl left early. Pissed at myself for being a moron. Should’ve called my doc that night.

Doc had to order Rabies Vacc from city health officials. He called me to get the first round done.

First round day after the first day at doc’s = 1 shot in non-tetanus-ed arm, 2 steriod boosters in the ass. 1 in each cheek.

2nd round month later = 1 shot in arm.

3rd round month after 2nd= 1shot in arm
4th round month after 3rd= 1shot in arm.

mind you I was 21 at the time, i asked doc if he had other rabies patients. he said mostly kids = me a dumbass dolt for touching “stray” animals.

lessons learned, don’t touch “stray” animals. Cats are fucking pyschotic and all need to die (just a joke now, but the feeling was different during the whole rabies vacc).

I recommend that you get your son a tetanus booster if he hadn’t had one in recent times.

I hate bad dog owners, I dislike bad dogs. (I’m a dog owner, and I know how my bitch feels when she gets her Rabies vaccine)

I wish you best of luck in whatever course you plan on going with the fucked up owners of the dog that bit your son. I also wish that your son doesn’t have to get the vaccine in the first place. If he does that he doesn’t suffer as I did.

Fatigue, diarrhea from the steroid booster as a side effect (not all patients get it), and just plain old crankiness.

Wow, sounds like you had quite and ordeal. I am so sorry. As of right now my son doesn’t need the shots, but I suppose that can change if the dog becomes sick. I have my fingers crossed that he doesn’t. As for the tetanus we’re lucky tetanus was part of his childhood shots and he had one in the last couple of years.

Too bad it’s not legal to shoot the dumb assed owners…

When we were children, my sister got bit by a cat and had to have rabies shots, one in the stomach everyday for twelve days. She was five years old and it took two nurses and my mother to hold her down. Rabies vaccinatons have improved in thirty years.

A few weeks ago, our neighbor’s dog killed our cat. My wife is an animal lover, too, but that didn’t stop her from taking my 22 rifle into the yard, calling the mutt over, and putting one into his skull (she can’t aim well). She called the neighbor to come get the carcass out of the yard, too. She’s a sweetie.

I’m glad your son is okay, but people like your neighbors piss me off to no end, I don’t understand what is so hard about keeping your dog off someone elses property. And it isn’t fair to the dog that it has to be put to sleep because the neighbors have allowed it t o act this way (all IMHO of course)

Pom corgi? What does that look like? Anyway, corgi’s a herding breed, and sort of known for being nippy.

Fuckhlanelee I hope no person ever offends your wife, was the dog in your yard to begin with, or she had to call it in there to kill it?

I wish I had your wife’s guts. I’ve never even held a gun before so it’s probably best I not start now. I’d probably shoot the owners on accident with my luck. So sorry about your kitty, we have 2 cats and I don’t let them outside for fear that something will happen. Good luck with your neighbor’s I hope they don’t get another dog, if so make sure your gun stays loaded. Hats off to your wife I envy her.

It looks like a a skinny corgi with blonde hair. Not the ugliest animal, but not my type of dog.

 Yeah, shoot someone over a dog bite. You, sir, are an idiot of the highest caliber.

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed, UncleBeer?

<hijack>A Corgi-Pom cross?

All other things aside… that’s too funny. Tiny dog with short stumpy legs and mega ears stickin’ up! We’re not talking a huge mastiff or rottie with fangs-o-death here. It’s what… 12-15 pounds of dog, tops?

Mind you, most dog bites I’ve heard of are actually from small vicious dogs. The ones we hear of in the news are always big dogs, since they can do a heck of a lot more dramatic damage.
</hijack>

I’m sorry. The image of a Corgi/Pom cross made me giggle. I hope your son is fine, n’ that you get the neighbours to put up a fence for themselves and that they stop letting their mutt run loose.

No, not at all. This is the same side of the bed I always wake up on. I’ve always been vocal about repugnant statements like this one.

Frankly, I’m disgusted by the number of expressions of violence, and even killing, put forth as acceptable retaliatory acts on this message board. I’m pretty sure they’re only hyperbole, but as I said very recently in another thread here in the Pit (and in many threads, including a few in GD, over many years), it’s a pretty repulsive brand of hyperbole. And it’s surely unnecessary. And de-humanizing. And puerile.

Just wanted to let you all know what ended up happening with the “stupid” people and thier “pyscho” dog. We filed a report with animal control and just got the paperwork back before Christmas and the neighbors admitted the dog bit my son and they had cleaned up the bite. They also admitted the dog’s rabies shot was 6 months overdue and they did not have a dog liscence. They have since gotten the dog a liscence and it’s shots. It continues to run loose and the frozen ground prevents our fence from going up before spring :(. We did retain an attorney because the neighbors refused to cooperate at all with us and finally produced proof of insurance to our attorney. Here’s where it starts getting “really stupid” …all I can do is shake my head and laugh at this point. They told thier insurance company thier dog was current on it’s shots, was liscenced, they weren’t home when our son was bit, and our dog must have bitten our son. They are obtaining witness statements from thier friends to prove they weren’t home and their dog wouldn’t hurt a fly…keep in mind they’ve already told animal control they were home and thier dog did bite our son. The “even stupidier” thing is with the animal control report in their possession the insurance company actually wants to go to court. This was never about money just mainly about keeping the dog away from us and being left alone. The dog still runs loose and the people have received 12 tickets since the bite. Makes you wonder doesn’t it. Thanks to everyone that let me vent and gave me great advice when it all happened and I wanted to go postal

Shooting? Caliber? Hell, I thought it was a great pun…

Fucking small dog owners. (And no, that’s not a threat! )

People with big dogs seem to be much more concerned with whether their dog bites people. You would not allow your Dobie to bite, would you? But it seems that people with little dogs sometimes assume they can’t do much harm, so they don’t try as much to control them.

I’m not denying the existence of many well-behaved small dogs. It just seems that small dogs get away with a whole lot more shit than big dogs do. Just because a Pommie can do much less damage than a wolfhound, the Pommie can still do damage !

Control your dogs, people!

I know what you mean. We’re not going to let these people get away with it though. If they just didn’t know any better we might write them off, but since they are being so dishonest about it we can’t. My chocolate lab wouldn’t hurt anyone, if someone broke into my house he’d hold the door them…lol.
