Stupid Press: Every "X" is a "Y"

A few recent threads have made it plain that the 4th Estate is lazy and ignorant and assumes everyone else is. Not necessarily in the broad sense, of course, but in observing useful distinctions among the members of a class of things. Using a single (often loaded) name all members of a class, even if it’s not objectively accurate in the specific case they’re reporting.

Here are some examples from those threads:

Every vicious dog is a pit bull.
Every armored combat vehicle is a tank.
Every semiautomatic rifle is an AK-47.

We Dopers are smarter than this, of course. What are some other examples that torque your jaw?

Every embryo is a baby.

From the right:
“All Muslims are terrorists.”
“All blacks are criminals.”
“All gays are pedophiles.”

From the left:
“All cops are racists killers.”
“All trump voters are idiots.”

From both:
“All the people who disagree with me basically think the same.”

I wouldn’t bet on that. I’ve seen threads where it had to be painstakingly explained to Dopers what a tank is, or what a semi-auto rifle is.

Yeah, I hate both the “all liberals are basically just communists” and “all liberals are basically just right-wing apologists” memes.

All of the press is dishonest.
All Dopers are smart.

Not so much from the Fourth Estate, but just general discourse:

All balloons that carry people are now “hot air” balloons, regardless of whether they are or not.

“All illegal immigrants are Mexican.”

Sharon was crazy, and Dawn was psychotic (must have been all those “crack of Dawn” jokes) and Ellen was downright cruel in the end, and I struggle to understand how I was drawn to them in the first place and what held back my GTFO instinct. In other words, every Ex is a Why?

I think “Tank” is the commonly used generic term for the entire class of “military vehicles with treads, armors and guns”. It also refers, when used by the more knowledgeable, to a specific type of vehicle within that broader category.

Similarly, “classical music” means “music written by old dead guys played by orchestras” and also something more specific, when distinguishing baroque vs romantic vs classical.
But if someone said “oh my god, did you see on the news, a tank just crashed through the front of a Safeway” and it turned out to was a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, I think it would take a fairly insane level of pedantry to claim that the person had been wrong.
