Stupid question about washing hands

I fully admit this is stupid, but…
I’ve been on self-quarantine for a little over a week now. Before that I had very limited interaction with humans, but exposure to elevator buttons, cafeterias, etc. I keep being told to wash my hands, wash my hands, but I’ve not left the house or interacted with another human other than Mr. singular, who has been self-quantined for the same time. How does the “wash your hands “ apply when we haven’t interacted with anyone other than each other? Of course we wash after bathroom stuff and before touching or preparing food, but why more when we have not been exposed to any outside contaminates? There’s nothing different in our environment.
I feel I’m missing something here.

I’m not a doctor, but I believe that in you specific case it makes no difference at all.

IANAD but in your case, you don’t need to be as vigilant about hand washing. You’re not living in a sterile environment so there are still some germs getting in and out but you’re not interacting with outside randos so your risks are cut considerably.

Unless there is something being brought in from outside your home, e.g. food, that may have been handled by someone, or you are sending something out of your home that you handled, I suspect the risk of spreading germs is low.

That said, it is probably good practice to wash diligently for after your quarantine, as in good habit-building.

Thanks! I really couldn’t wrap my head around why I needed chapped hands now.

By the way, anything delivered, like groceries or mail, gets wiped down and hand washing after, so we got the randos covered.
