I own a small computer business and we have recently been plagued by a rash of con artists attempting to purchase a quantity of notebooks in the $1,400.00 range.
The callers want to use a credit card for payment but are unable to provide any verification said cards.
(As standard operating procedure, I require that any purchases made over the phone by c.c. must be shipped to the card owner’s billing address.)
The odd thing is, all of the calls have been made via TTY services for the deaf.
TTY calls can be very time consuming because the operator has to type everything I say and read everything to me that the caller has typed.
TTY calls are also, to the best of my knowledge, untraceable because they route through a call center.
The last caller requested that I have 17 notebooks available to be picked up by FedEx International tomorrow.
He’s shipping them to his wife, the selfless doctor in Ghana for her clinic.
Right, and I’m the queen of the bloody jungle.
Here, let me just hand you $24,000.00 -o.k.?
Each and every time I explain my conditions, the caller hangs up abruptly.
They all want Toshiba Satellites too.
Go figure.
A pox on these con artists and phones that they called in on!
I’m tired of you wasting my time. You obviously think that 1)I’m stupid or 2) I assume that because you have some sort of handicap, you’re automatically honest.
