Stupid WWII pronunciation question

Operation “Bagration”, the huge Soviet counterattack; how is it pronounced?

“Bag-rayshun”?
“Bag-rat-eon”?

Other?

Who originated that code name? Is it meant to be Russian, English or something else?

Wikipedia has this for its pronunciation: /bʌɡrʌtiˈɒn/

Wikipedia’s IPA guide: Help:IPA/English - Wikipedia

If I’m interpreting the IPA codes properly, it’s more like buh-gruh-TEE-on.

It’s named for a general in the Napoleonic wars, who is in turn descendant of a Georgian royal dynasty. Lots of opportunity to establish an Anglicised pronunciation of the word. If that hasn’t happened, the Georgian pronunciation is something like bagraht-yon.

Here’s a Russian pronunciation of it. It wasn’t the first named after a Napoleon figure, Operation Kutuzov for instance was launched in 1943.

Thank you all; very helpful!
