Stupidest newscaster question of all time

In the Detroit marathon ,3 runners died of heart attacks yesterday. All at the end of the race. One was 26, one was 35 and the other was 65. The sports reporter gave the info. Then the anchor woman asked if the experts thought age was a factor. Good grief.

Autopsy results demonstrating heart attacks as the cause of death are already back in all three cases?

That’s not nearly as dumb as the, “How do you feel about the death of your [mom, dad, sister, brother, child]?” questions.

What would you say to those who’ve said that you’re a pathetic sack of shit who deserves to go to jail?

Mind you, I’M not saying it… I’m just acting as a go-between! Tell me what you’d say to THOSE PEOPLE, and I’ll pass the message along!

The sad thing is we have to ask those questions. Otherwise when we write our stories our editors will come by and say, “Well, why don’t you get a quote about age being a factor?” Some editors are better about that than others. Still,I’ve written so many stories where you’d figure that sort of stuff would be obvious, but they want us to call an expert anyway, just to get an authoritative voice in.
I work in print, not TV, but I assume they deal with similar issues.

It makes sense to ask that question if it’s just about the 65-year-old. gonzomax makes it sound like they asked if all three deaths were related to age, which would be an incredibly stupid question.

No , but doctors made the claim.

My all-time favorite was during the media circus around Mickey Mantle’s liver transplant. At a news conference with medical and sports reporters, one of the doctors mentioned that the same donor had also provided both kidneys and a few other organs for other patients.

One of the reporters asked how the donor was doing.

The doctor did a double-take and replied, “You’re one of the sports reporters, aren’t you?”

All three runners had finished aging.

All the runners had double digit ages. More marathon runners in this age group die than in any other.

Oh yeah? How many marathoners are under 10 and over 99?

Oh, damn, I been whooshed, haven’t I?

Of course age was a factor! Anyone aged 26-65 have an equal chance of death by heart attack!

The 65-year-old “fell and hit his head.” It’s possible he had a heart attack or some other age related problem and that made him fall, but he also might’ve just tripped. So it’s possible none of these deaths were age related. :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember Tom Brokaw asking a scientist in California who was an expert on earthquakes this question, referring to a bank of dials, gauges, etc. visible over the shoulder of the scientist : Is that the Richter scale behind you?

Which, in turn, is trumped by Larry King asking a rape victim, “What were you thinking when he was making love to you?”

Aha! Larry King is not a newscaster! MY question gets asked by idiotic newscasters all over the country. So THERE!

Take your filthy logic back to Cardiff, Welshman.

This needs a study to determine the veracity of this statement. So for $5,000,000 (plus expenses), over the next two years, I will study the age range of deaths in every recorded marathon.

Well there was the reporter who asked Doug Williams at the Super Bowl if he had always been a black quarterback.

The irony is it’s the 32nd *Detroit Free Press *Marathon. The sports reporter probably works for the Detroit Free Press. The anchor woman was just getting the story from the source. Good for her.
