Stupidities you've witnessed (people oblivious to the virus)

Terminal stupidity: No doubt you’ve all seen the story about the Arizona couple that took chloroquine phosphate (the medicine for aquarium fish formula) because Trump and/or Fox suggested it. Both got severely ill within 20 minutes. Man died at hospital; wife is in ICU.

Half Man Half Wit has a thread on it already.

Pastor again defies state order not to hold large gatherings. He says 1,000 people came to his church Sunday. But it’s fine, because

Not only is the pastor an asshole, so is everyone who attends the meetings.

This “corona virus” party really takes the cake. Also contains a vid of the pastor mentioned above.

Saw this in the media, never heard of chloroquine before. So, it is an aquarium cleaner? What kind of doofus would ever think of ingesting the stuff?

Now let us liven up the forthcoming election and persuade Donny to clean *his * aquarium. And what was that about letting the oldies die off? be as good as your word, Donny boy, don’t just tell people what to do, you should take your own advice. And LD100-supersized!

Chloroquine (or chloroquine phosphate) is a malaria drug. It’s also used as an active ingredient in some fish tank cleaners.

There is some nascent evidence that medicinal chloroquine may be effective against coronaviruses. Trump hyped that possibility on TV. This couple saw they had a bottle of aquarium treatment that contained it, so they combined a small amount with soda and drank it.

20 minutes later they were on death’s door.

Just now I can hear the jingle of the ice cream truck outside my apartment. This is the second time I’ve heard it in as many weeks, granted it seems to be less often than a few weeks ago. And I didn’t step outside to see if there was a group of kids congregating outside of it.

Saw these guys doing some sort of a donation drive coming home from the store today.

If you enlarge the photo, you can see it’s a donation site for PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

If one or two people were collecting I would understand. But there are too many people in that group and no one was wearing any type of mask. There was also a group of 4 police officers watching them from a distance.

Yeah, the one around here was doing the Turkey in the Straw thing non-stop the other day.

Oddly, I’ve never seen it, just hear it. We suspect it’s really just a drug-dealing front.

Which makes me wonder: Are bookies allowed to break legs of bettors who don’t pay up now? Is that an essential business?

That’s passé. They come to your door and cough in your face.

People are holding corona parties.

How do you even GET that many into such a small space?

I wonder if some things may have gotten muddled in this story. The host is 47 years old and there were 47 people in the apartment? Could the numbers have gotten mixed up?

Stacked like cordwood, for one.

Just thinking about it give me claustrophobia

As an aside, something I notice at the gym (Planet Fitness in my case but I assume it’s the same anywhere) is when people do wipe down the equipment they use, it makes no sense anyway. People tend to wipe down the parts their bodies come into contact with - where their backs, asses and legs touch the seats. It’s nice that you got rid of your sweat, but in terms of preventing disease, that’s the least useful thing you can do; it’s hard to catch anything through your T-shirt into your back. What they usually don’t wipe down are the HANDLES, which you touch with your hands (hence the name) and which are maybe one thousand times likelier to communicate an illness. And people never, ever wipe down free weights at all - though, again, the point of contact is hands. I am the only person I’ve ever seen wipe down free weights.

They put up plexiglass shields in front of the checkers at the local groc store. They left the back side open, about 1.5 feet between the checkers and the next line over.
I kinda like the blue-tape exxes they scattered all over the floor of the store, with no explanation or even obvious purpose.

We made a run to the dump this weekend because we had a pile of stuff in the living room and in the way to dump or recycle from just before things got serious. I checked and yup, the county’s page indicated that distancing and other strategies were in place at this facility. Got there and was unloading an old TV when a worker came within 2 feet of me, saying, “I’ll help you with that!” I stepped back and said, “No. Stay 6 feet away.” He stood there. I said, “Back up! I am immunosuppressed!” He backed up slightly, and laughed. I set down the TV and left. I then wrote to the county, which was responsive, describing the encounter and requesting that they provide additional education (for example, from 6 feet away: “Would you like help with that?”).
