Stupidities you've witnessed (people oblivious to the virus)

About a dozen kids now sick, and about 800, went back home.

According to one interview Falwell gave the only reason he opened the dorms back up is because he had a lot of students(mostly from outside the US) that didn’t have any place to go home too. So it was a choice between letting them be homeless or re-opening the dorms for them stay.

That doesn’t make sense. If you’ve got a few hundred foreign students, you don’t call back the whole student body of 15,000. You make accommodations for the few hundred.

Presumably they are six feet apart, to indicate proper social distancing.

This was probably the jerk interviewed via Polycom by Dr Phil. The pastor said his worship services are a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Phil mentioned other ministers who have been using Facebook and other social media for their ministry.

This guy BRAGGED about praying with and laying on hands to a parishioner with the coronavirus. He said that he (the pastor) had superior immunity.

I guess God told him that.

He never came out and said it, but he insinuated God would protect everyone who gathered to hear him preach.

When Phil tried to explain entire communities sheltering-in-place, the pastor said he was obviously talking about California, and what should you expect from a Godless state that would consider a marijuana dispensary to be an essential business and remain open, while law enforcement can harass devout Christians who wish to worship together?

He said his part of the United States was spared so far, and he didn’t expect the infection to make any real presence there, it was essentially confined to the two coasts.

The pastor was located in Louisiana.

You’d think, but I went down one aisle, and there was one blue X about halfway down it. No others on a 50 foot aisle. Maybe It’s a work in progress, if so It’s still mighty haphazard.

Where do I start?

Over a dozen people in one relatively small aisle. No, don’t go some other place and come back when it’s less crowded.

A family of three doing insta-cart together, just to maximize the chance of exposure.

People who are unwilling to speak at normal volume and have get really close to ask me for help.

The worst: people who have masks, but wear them over their chins or foreheads. Seriously, it’s not hard. The mask goes over your breath-holes! I want to yell at these assholes, they’ve basically stolen a mask from someone who actually needs it. Is profanity allowed in this forum? Never mind, what I want to say about them is too dirty for the Pit.

My family (I live 4 hours away from them) had a party on Saturday. I did not go because, you know, virus out there. Maybe 11 people at the party, including 2 infants. In the pictures they sent me, I saw no social distancing whatsoever; they acted like there is no killer virus out there. They even passed the infants around!! I sent my sister an email yesterday and told her that she must not be reading the same news stories about this virus that I am. Her response? “We’re all fine.” I emailed her some info on the corona virus and high blood pressure, which she has. My family tells me they are taking it seriously but their actions do not support that. They are all Trump supporters so they may not be reading the same reports that I am.

They’re reading the ones from Fox News and still aren’t processing them.

I heard a government official from Lynchburg VA (home of Liberty U ) interviewed. She said that the original plan was to let only the students who had no place to go return.

Then Liberty blindsided her by inviting all students back to campus. I think about half showed up. Around that time, Falwell gave interviews about liberal media using coronavirus to get Trump. Make of it what you will.

On a smaller note

My mom is 80 years old, undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, and is in a wheelchair due to a fractured hip

Either my brother or I visit every day to bring in her mail, refill her Britta and do whatever else needs doing.

I brought in the mail the other day, which included a package from Amazon. She took that, and tried to open it with her teeth. :smack:

Love ya, Mom

A popular jogging trail in Dallas has become too popular since many are off work. This morning’s news showed police officers* standing on the trails showing everyone signs with separation instructions and talking to them, admonishing them to be careful. Every interaction I saw was with officers only a foot or two from the joggers. Each one of them, as they came by on the trail. This ought to work out just dandy.

*Assumed they were police due to uniforms. Might have been park police, etc.

My daughter works on a cruise ship in Hawaii. As all cruises are temporarily halted, the ship is in port in Honolulu and the crew is quarantined. The line also flew in a doctor and equipment and had everyone tested - doing their best to identify the sick and keep the others healthy. The workers typically share quarters below but they have been given individual staterooms to keep them all separated. They can walk around the ship, but the gym, library and most common areas are closed, and there’s not much to do besides hang out on your balcony and stream videos.

A few knuckleheads decided it would be a good idea to share vape pens by passing them from one balcony to another on a string. And then post pictures of themselves doing it on Instagram.

They are lucky this isn’t the Age of Sail when such antics would have earned the lash. The captain was livid. Said knuckleheads are now out of a job, although they can’t be sent home until the quarantine is lifted.

Move them to inside cabins.

Today I observed five teen-aged boys from the neighborhood (including one home from his freshman year of college) playing basketball next door all afternoon. None of them are related. All of them live in different houses.

Even if the kids are that clueless, you’d think the parents would provide some guidance…and all of them are home, including the owners of the house in question. Of course, the same parents have been allowing the neighborhood kids to use their trampoline as well as their basketball hoop whenever they want since they closed the schools two weeks ago…and have made no attempt to limit the number of kids together.

I would like to say something, but my wife thinks it will just cause trouble with the neighbors.

I would suggest you buy a multi-pack of condolence cards, but that’s just tacky.

Sounds like a self-limiting problem.

The teenagers in my neighborhood have been playing basketball in the street a few houses down since school was closed. I know at least one of them has a grandmother living with them. Then today, I saw five of them walking down the middle of the street, and not only were they not social-distancing, they were passing around a joint! :smack:

Someone posted on Reddit a picture of a sign announcing an " end the lockdown" rally which includes the text:

“No Mask Needed”
“Bring Your Children”
“If You’re Sick Still Come, It’s Your Right!”

The picture doesn’t look like something that would be easy to photoshop. Of course the sign itself could be fake.

If it’s real, someone should be arrested.

They have done this at most of my local supermarkets too. I think it’s better than nothing, because the screen is in the direction where customer and cashier are facing each other.

What astonishes me is that every supermarket in my area still has people bagging groceries. I don’t understand why everyone isn’t using self checkout anyway, which avoids interacting closely with a casher. But if you must use a cashier, who the hell wants a second person to then stand a couple of feet away from them, with no screen, touching all their groceries a second time?
