Has Subaru every made a four wheel drive with a low-range transfer case? Say since the mid 1980s.

Yep, you are probably right about the BRAT. I’m debating with a fella about the capability of Subarus off road. Talking sedans and wagons here.
He claims that he beat 25 out of 28 Jeeps (even highly modifed Jeeps) in and ‘off-road’ contest with a stock '86 Subaru wagon.
I pointed out that the Subaru is not going to be a very good off-road vehicle because it dosen’t have low-range. He claims the GL, DL and RX series do.
I’m highly skeptical of both his claims. Especially the first one. I wonder what kind of ‘contest’ it was.
