Suburgatory 4/10 - Sly "Cosby Show" Reference

IN last night’s episode, the main character George was cleaning out his attic and his friend held up a shirt and asked him if they were to keep it or throw it away. It was this hideous 80’s shirt, but the main character, George, said " NO that’s a classic Gordon Gartrell shirt" or something along those lines.

Now here is my question - is that the name of an actuall designer or was it made up for the first season episode of the “Cosby Show” where Theo wants an expensive designer shirt, but his sister offers to make it for him instead to save money?

Please help - is there and actuall “Gordon Gatrell” or where the writers of SUBURGATORY referencing THE COSBY SHOW

According to imdb.com, Gordon Gartrelle was a producer on “The Cosby Show”. I’m guessing there’s your answer. (Unless it was a ghost writer. There’s no further info on him than that.)

It was the exact same shirt* (the one Theo bought before being told to return it, not the one Denise made), so it had to be a reference.

*[sup][sub]that is it looked exactly the same, I doubt they used the same prop shirt as ~20 years is a long time to keep a prop shirt[/sub][/sup]

I was watching that scene amazed at how nice George’s attic was. The peak of the roof was high enough that you could put in a ceiling without needing to duck, it had windows and a hardwood floor. The only thing preventing it from being used as living space was the absence of drywall and insulation. (Given that Chatwin is supposed to be in the New York suburbs, that space must be freezing in winter.)

I cracked up when George mentioned the Gordon Gartrell, and my wife (who didn’t watch the cosby show) had no clue why.
