Successful female directors

Wellll . . . Miss Lillian was a friend of mine, and I adore her . . . But Kevin Brownlow, probably the world’s best-informed film historian (who extensively interviewed her and just about everyone else in silent films) says that was pretty much a publicity stunt and that Lillian Gish did not direct that film. The fact that she never thereafter showed any interest in directing gives weight to that.

Sarah Jacobson just passed away recently, quite young of cancer. The local Twin Cities papers ran her obit.

Not yet mentioned in Exapno Mapcase’s list or RealityChuck’s link is Daisy von Scherler Mayer, who directed Party Girl (1995) (starring Parker Posey) and The Guru (2002).
