I saw this on the news the other day, and paid little attention, as RO stories don’t usually get to me.
A 16-year-old girl went to a party on Saturday night. Police aren’t saying yet, but there were probably drugs and alcohol being served. At around 5am, she left, wearing nothing but shorts and a jacket. She never arrived home. At around 10am, a search party found her face-down in a partially frozen puddle, not 200 yards from the house.
What makes this especially sad for me is that I know the girl’s father. I got an e-mail from him just a week ago.
Good lord. This is the kind of thing which makes parenting so difficult. I live in fear of that late-night phone call or military officer at my door. This can happen when the parents have done everything right, it just takes one stupid mistake.
Not only is the story tragic, it’s downright bizarre. I have to wonder why her parents let her stay out that late. Unless, of course, it was some kind of sleepover deal.
