Suffering Cheeseheads

Hey Rysdad, if you are looking for a QB, try Daunte Culpepper, and for a RB, look at Robert Smith. If you pick these guys up, then when the Vikings wax the Pack, you win too.

Rysdad beat me to the punch - people are clearly happy to flee Green Bay for any reason, and since football is all that village has, it’s the best reason of all.
As for this alleged nationwide underground of Packer fans, they are quite obviously bandwagoners. We all know that “Packer fans” were not so ubiquitous before the team’s success of recent seasons. We’ll see if, after a season or two of failure, they can draw more of an out-of-town attendance than someone like the Falcons or Ravens. I doubt it … I don’t see so many Cowboy fans anymore, hmm. I wonder how many of them “traded up” for the yellow and green? Anyone here? Don’t be shy.

As for those wondering what’s my team, frequent readers of SD football threads already know that I am a Tampa dweller and a Bucs fan for @ 25 years now. And before you try and hurt my feelings by running your 'hole about their lackluster performances of late, be aware there’s nothing you can say about them that I haven’t said 1000 times already. It’s a tough season all around but I believe the Bucs will be right there in January. The Pack will not.

(& isn’t beagledave precious with his trendy Straight Dope buzzwords? Keep drowning your many sorrows, chump; I’ve no time for the likes of ye.)

As a Vikings fan, let me be the first to say…Keshawn who?

I should mention that when the Vikings aren’t playing I’ll watch the Pack…keeping up with the competition and all

In case you missed the original post…this is not a pit thread or a great debates thread (or even an IMHO thread)…so debating the “true loyalty” of Packer fans seems to miss the point of THIS thread.

If you don’t have time for “the likes of ye”…why would you be posting and following up to a thread started by me?

Perhaps starting a new thread in IMHO, Great Debates, or the Pit is what you might be looking for.

As other people have said…good natured ribbing (like what sandyr is doing) fits in with this thread and forum…trolling doesn’t.

All of you Green Bay fans, I have two words that will make you feel exponentially better:

RANDY WRIGHT.

Hardcore Vikings fan here! It’s not my fault that Farve coughs up the ball al the time!

P.S. Packers SUCK!

:::runs away with a big grin on his face:::

Vikings play tonight at 7 p.m. central time. GO VIKINGS!!!

Now, now let’s get this straight, Favre fumbles and throws inteceptions to cough it up would imply he had something caught in his throat…if you know what I mean.

RTA…

You’re the one being a chump! Your comments prove you to be somewhat of a dumbass too.

Do you actually have a waiting line for season ticket’s now? We supported your franchise for many a year by coming down there.

If you don’t think your acting the part of a troll that makes 1 person in this thread who thinks that.

Sigh. I thought I would check out this thread again after this weekend to see if any more Packer fans popped in (mostly to get a feel for who the other cheeseheads are on the board), and what do I find? A pleasant MPSIMS thread polluted by RTA spewing vitriol out of his ass.

Gazoo has a good point. Good-natured ribbing among the fans is what makes these rivalries fun. I like to trade barbs with fans of the Vikes, Lions, Bucs, and Bears. But your comments are not good-natured or fun. They are spiteful and ingorant trolling.

Hey, you want to rip on the Pack, be my guest. I do it all the time. They have deserved it of late. But as someone born and raised in Green Bay, I resent your characterization of my fair city as an “inbred village” that “doesn’t belong in the rank of NFL cities.”

Green Bay is a nice sized city (100,000) that doesn’t put on airs. It is blue-collar (said with pride, not shame, dammit) and somewhat conservative, but so is most of the midwest. It is a true heartland city, filled with friendly people, quiet streets, and no traffic congestion. People like you seem to think these small city qualities are defects. I happen to cherish them.

Your comment about not belonging in the rank of NFL cities is almost too ignorant for words. Green Bay IS the NFL. The league started in small towns and cities, and the Packers are the lone survivor of that bygone era. Green Bay is the link to the history of pro football in America. The fact that modern teams have evolved into toys for rich owners in big cities doesn’t negate the importance of Green Bay. If anything, it enhances it.

And like Gazoo said, what’s wrong with Packer fans travelling to support their team? For most fans, it’s the only way they get to see the Packers play in person. Lambeau Field has been sold out for every single game for the past 30 years, whether the Packers are good or bad. Sure, the bandwagon fans increased during the nineties. They always do when a team has success. But even if all the bandwagon fans fall away, the Packers will still have the strongest base of support of any team in the league. We love the whole Packer experience here. Win or lose, we drive from all over to tailgate, cheer, and whoop it up with other cheeseheads.

So lay off already, OK. It’s a game. We’re passionate about it, to be sure, but the rest of us aren’t making attacks out of left field about each other’s home towns and fellow fans.

BTW….

Hey this doesn’t have to be all pity does it?

WOOHOO!!! We won….at home!!!

We are getting Healthy too… TGIBW.

Pass the Jaeger….

SHOTS for everyone!!! Even RTA if he wants.

Ahem, scoreboard!!!

Go Decatur Staleys!

Merely a minor distraction in the fact that they still suck. Wait till we come to Soldier Field.

I, unfortunately, am headed for Decayed-er tomorrow. Maybe I will pick up a souvenir for my friend who is a Bears fan. He just picked me up a Tenant’s glass with that Laser etching on the bottom from Scotland so he’s not all bad.

That Urlacher kid looks pretty good though I must say!!

Bring on the Bye Week… we can take em’.

::Wanders in with an armload of Mickey’s Ice::

Well, here’s to the Packer Fan motto:

It Could Be Worse.

Cheesehead checking in:

We really shouldn’t make fun of the Viking fans, look at the pathetic tin can they play in.

Although, I did enjoy watching my Badgers kick Gopher butt there last year!!
