Suggest a good biography of King Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor

I’m looking for a good biography/history of King Edward VIII(later Duke of Windsor). I’ve watched a Netflix biography on him, and I’m looking for more indepth info about him. Was he really a Nazi sympathizer, or was he a spoiled little boy courted by the Nazis. Did he intentionally leak information, or was he trying to gain favor? Did Wallis Simpson really love him, or was he a way to gain a throne? That kind of info.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks.

I don’t really have a book recommendation, but I do think I have an answer to that last question. Considering that they remained together for the rest of his life, despite the abdication and the fact that her presence wasn’t welcome in the royal fold for 30 or 40 years after it, I’d have to call it love.

I haven’t read it but King Edward VIII by Philip Ziegler (published in 1990) seems to be the standard biography.

I have read it and it is very good. But the obvious point about it is that it was the ‘official’ biography, commissioned by the Queen and vetted by the Palace before publication. That’s both a strength and a weakness. It did mean that Ziegler got access to closed official files, some of which still remain inaccessible to other researchers. Although it later turned out that he hadn’t been allowed to see everything, as he wasn’t given access to the files on Wallis Simpson’s concurrent affair with Guy Trundle. Moreover, how far Ziegler was just repeating what the Palace wanted him to say is not as simple as it sounds. It’s hardly as if the Royal Family’s view of the Duke and Duchess had ever been particularly positive. So Ziegler had plenty of scope to take a more critical line. But it’s not a hatchet job either. Perhaps the most surprising thing about it was how even-handed Ziegler managed to be.
