About once a week in winter, I give myself a Vaseline facial. I smear a layer of Vaseline over my face and steam it by putting a hot washcloth over it for a few minutes - I might change the washcloth three times (gives you an idea of time). Then I wipe everything off with a Kleenex.
I, too, like the Olay sensitive-skin, fragrance-free, with suncreen moisturizing lotion. Taking a daily B-complex vitamin will often remedy dry cracked skin.
I use Vaseline petroleum jelly on my hands and lips in winter. It soaks into my hands in no time, if that gives you an idea of how dry things are here. It also forms a nice barrier against wind and cold on my lips (I can’t use anything even slightly medicated on my lips - the burning is quite unpleasant).
Don’t laugh, but I’m having good luck with Crisco. That’s right, the solid white shortening in the blue can. I was having problems with flaking skin around my eyebrows when I read a tip in a beauty forum that I frequent. I was quite skeptical but I washed my face and applied a pea size drop of Crisco all over my face. My face still feels very soft and smooth, several hours later. Hope this helps.
My skin is hyper-hyper-sensitive, and I like the Olay fragrance-free, the Aveeno and the Cetaphil. The Clinique yellow stuff does not absorb into my skin properly. I have given away dozens of those little bottles from bonus gifts. The Clinique Moisture On-Call is pricey but very nice. Origins discontinued its Constant Comfort, which was awesome.
I tried the Neutrogena Healthy Skin SPF 15, and while I do like how it works, I can “feel” it on my face. I don’t know if it’s the sunscreen or the AHA or whatever. I suppose if it’s the AHA I’d get used to it. Thoughts from those who use it?
Like I said earlier, I’m using Olay daily moisturizer with sunscreen, and I don’t feel it on my face at all. Is it maybe too heavy for a daily moisturizer? I know the Dove stuff I usually use is incredibly light.
I’ve tried that Olay stuff but didn’t feel it really moisturized at all - maybe it was good sunscreen, but it seemed to sink right into my skin and not affect anything.
another vote for vaseline. cold windy days are not the time to have a product with water in it on your face. it keeps your face from getting chapped. oil based works better in cold places.
in the food aisle you can go with miracle whip as an exfoliant. then crisco to moisturize.
Noxema’s always worked for me on my face. Vaseline Total Moisture elsewhere.
