Ladies, I need a good moisturizer. Any suggestions?

They do it to me every time. I find a moisturizer I like, and they stop making it. Right now, I’m using Avon’s oil-absorbing moisturizer, but I’m almost out, and, according to their website, they aren’t making it any more. The rest of the line, sure. Just not the moisturizer.

So, I have to start looking for a moisturizer. Again. But this time, I have access to a vast amount of experience and knowledge that I didn’t have before, i.e., you.

FWIW, I have combination skin, so anything too heavy makes me break out. My favorites so far have claimed to be ‘oil-absorbing’ or ‘mattifying’.

Thanks!

I have combination skin too, and for a regular facial lotion I just use Neutrogena’s UVA/UVB Sunblock, SPF 45. Use of daily sunscreen is important, and the stuff that’s added to makeup is in such low concentrations that from what I’ve read it’s not very effective. If you don’t like the slightly “sticky” feeling from it, I’ve also been using one from Bath & Body Works - the name is something to do with “Silk”, it comes in a frosted glass pump bottle in a teardrop shape. I have their Coconut Lime Verbena version, and it smells yummy - but makes me vaguely hungry for Thai food. :stuck_out_tongue:

So you just use the sunblock year-round? Is that for faces? Does it have an odor? I will have to check that out.

Bath & Body Works, huh? I will check them out, too. I hate going to the mall, but I know where there’s a Bath & Body in a small, not too crowded mall not far from my house.

Thanks for the tips!

I have REALLY sensitive skin, so it’s always been difficult for me to
find something that doesn’t either make me break out or dry me out to the point of chapping.

I use Bio2 Cosmeceuticals. Wonderful stuff, but you either have to go to an esthetician or order online. here is their website. I use the gentle cleanser, the moisture cream, and the SPF 30 sunblock. Don’t balk too much at the prices, you only use a very little bit every day, and the stuff lasts for about 5 months.

Cetaphil!!! It is the best best stuff. I just about swear by it.

Have you ever tried Mary Kay products? It may take some experimenting, but my girlfriend who has the most sensitive and combination skin I’ve ever seen can use MK products.

I also have combo skin and I use MK. Check it out

I must second Ferret Herder’s suggestion of a moisturizer with a sunblock. I use sunblock 365 days a year—you can get UV damage in the winter; on cloudy days. Mr. Gravity might be pulling my face downward off my skull, but at least when it hits the floor it will be wrinkle-free!

Yes, I use it year-round. As Eve noted, you can get UV damage during any season. I forget if the tube I have says if it’s for face only - it comes in a tube with the nozzle at the bottom, rather than a larger bottle. I’ll check when I get home tonight.

You might find the Bath and Body Works lotion that I mentioned to be a bit greasy - I would recommend trying the tester and seeing what you think of it. It seems to absorb very well, though.

My sister also recommended MK, so I will definitly add them to the list of products to check out. Thanks.

There is sunblock in my foundation. I was unaware that, according to Ferret Herder there isn’t enough to do any good; I thought I was better protected than that. I am annoyed to find that out, to say the least.

The moisturizer I liked the best was made by Nivea and had sunblock. It was perfect. But, of course, they don’t make it any more.

I had never considered using sunblock alone as moisturizer, because it’s usually greasy and has a strong fragrance which will irritate my allergies. Frankly, the fragrance issue is why I don’t wear it daily. And, I would worry about putting it around my eyes if it wasn’t made for faces.

Luckily, with the weather so far this summer, I won’t have to worry about sun damage; I’ll never see the sun!

<-------- Not a female.

The best there is, according to female friends and personal experience, is David Jones Sorbelene Cream in Australia.

Sadly, you cannot get it in the USA and from the web site, DJs is changing their web site shortly and removing online purchasing (another Aussie mgmt screwup?) altogether.

I see the price has gone up 300% for the tub. :frowning:

That’s the fun part about those stores! Testing everything! I smell like a fruit salad by the time I leave!

Umm, thanks? :dubious:

At least you made me laugh.

It’s such a matter of personal taste, but I have a few tips to share.

First, you can check whatever brand you like against Paula Begoun’s Beauty Bible or Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me (I may not have the exact title right) - either check your library or snoop at one at a bookstore if you don’t want to buy it. Paula also has a website, www.cosmeticscop.com - you can find a lot of good advice there.

Second, everyone should wear at least SPF15 on their face every day (cite: just about every dermatologist I’ve ever spoken with, or who’s published anything on the subject) - and reapply every 3 or so hours. There are a lot of facial moisturizers with SPF15 or higher; I’ve tried the Oil of Olay brand and liked it well enough, and Neutrogena’s has a good reputation as well (I’ve used it also, in the past).

I’m here to tell you:

Lupicare Moisturizing Lotion. It is awesome and works great. I get it mail order, but it may be available in stores. I really swear by it and it keeps my skin moist and clear as a bell. Try it!

My sister, with her notoriously sensitive skin, gave me some Oil of Olay stuff that worked well, but can I remember the exact name? Noooo, I cannot, so big help there, unless you want to check their sunscreen moisturizers (it’s baby chick yellow). Doesn’t leave my face greasy at all, and that’s counting 120 degrees + summers.

As soon as I’ve finished the last smidgeon of the mystery moisturizer, I’ve got a bottle of Neutrogena’s ultra sheer dry-touch sunblock. I tried it for a couple of days when I first got it and it’s the bee’s knees. Even has anti-oxidants, I notice as I read the label…

Well, the guys at my hospital use Cornholer’s Lotion and the ladies use something called Udder Cream, but I’m not sure if those are for the face, exactly.

If not then please disregard my post. It’s just that I see a lot of this stuff sitting around our nurses’ stations and the ER, so I figure it’s gotta be good, for them to use it so often.

Q

Oh, shit! That’s Cornhusker’s lotion. Everything else is right though!

Sorry!:o

Quasi

I use a generic equivalent of Oil of Olay - it’s an oil-free moisturizer and I love it. And it’s cheap! They make an SPF version too - I use that on the boat.

hoo boy, Quasi, when you make a typo… :stuck_out_tongue:
