Suggest an entertaining horror movie that's rated PG-13 or younger

For the third year in a row, my office is going to watch a horror film on Halloween.

Two years ago, we went with Critters 2. It wasn’t a good movie, but it had lots of jeerable bad action sequences going on. Good time.

Last year, we opted for Night of the Comet. It was a better movie, but a worse time, as it’s mostly cheesy talky sequences, without many bad action sequences.

This year … ? I’m open to suggestions for anything that’s entertaining for a large group – whether that’s an actually scary horror film or an action-packed cheesefest is open to debate. (Though given the people watching, the latter would probably win a vote.)

And it’s got to be PG-13 or milder. Anyone have any suggestions?

Gremlins is my favorite cheesy mild horror movie.

Get a Dr Who series. And make sure you have plenty of cushions to hide behind.

Seconding this one. It’s a lot of fun.

Rosemary’s Baby is pretty tame by our standards. But it’s decidedly less cheesy, more about suspense.

Much as I love suspenseful movies, if “suspense” is code for “you have to pay careful attention and let the tension build,” it’s not going to go over with a group prone to heckling.

Gremlins is a good suggestion, given that someone else here is promoting Ghoulies II. But keep 'em coming.

Monster Squad

What about Tremors.

Poltergeist? I don’t know its rating, but I can’t recall anything overly horrific.

The investigator who peeled off his face was kinda horrible, but other than that, it wasn’t too bad.

I second Tremors – that movie’s a lot of fun and it’s not terribly gory. Kevin Bacon, Reba McIntire, Michael Gross – what’s not to like?

Kick it old school!

The Bride of Frankenstein w/Karloff

The Wolf Man w/Chaney Jr

The Mummy w/Karloff

Masque of the Red Death w/Price

Or really go OLDER school with Nosferatu!

Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein

Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy

Ghost Busters

Short film Betty Boop’s Halloween Party.

Fright Night is rated “R” but it’s kind of an iffy R. Mainly because of a sheer neglige (breasts visible) in one scene, I guess.

Here’s one not everyone will have already have seen: The Other. I wasn’t sure if it was on DVD but I checked and netflix has it, so it must be.

The House on Haunted Hill. Vincent Price.

Or how about Mars Attacks!?

Monster House! It’s cool…

How about Beetlejuice? It’s really more comedy than horror, but it’s a lot of fun.

The scariest movie ever made is rated G.

Another “Night of the C-” title: Night of the Creeps
oops…that has an “R” rating, I think. Sorry!

The Frighteners.
