I am looking for some monitor suggestions for PS4 gaming. My Budget is around 500 US dollars, Please suggest me some good monitors that have good colors corrections
Do you want a monitor (like a PC monitor) or a TV for your PS4?
Either will work.
I’d hesitate to buy a monitor right now because it isn’t clear what Ampere cards, RDNA 2 cards, and 9th generation consoles are going to do to the landscape. For example, they’ll likely push out HDMI 2.1 for 4K@120Hz support. That’s basically non-existent right now.
Another issue is, last I knew, the PS4 didn’t play nicely with 1440p. That’s the current PC gaming sweet spot since hardware can push 1440p@144Hz but not 4K@144Hz. Not too many quality 1080p monitors as a result. 4K monitors general aren’t gaming-oriented. That doesn’t matter a ton for PS4, but it hurts PS5 compatibility since that’ll have the hardware to take advantage of high-end gaming monitor features.
If I had to choose, I’d get one of two monitors.
If you don’t care about PS5 at all, probably a BenQ EW3270U. It is a VA-type monitor so it offers a 3000:1 contrast ratio vs the typical 1000:1 for other monitor technologies. That makes its colour production much better. It is 4K@60Hz, so it’ll scale to PS4 output without any issue.
If you do care about PS5, probably a BenQ EX2780Q. It’s a 1440p@144Hz monitor so you can enjoy high-refresh gaming on PS5. This monitor will suck if PS5 doesn’t allow 1440p output though and Sony might just do that. It uses FreeSync technology to eliminate frame pacing issues and the PS5 RDNA architecture is very likely to support that.
I don’t like telling people to wait on hardware since something new always around the corner, but this is a rare case where it might be worth it. At least until more technical details are known about the new consoles.
Most console games, even on the PS5 are likely to remain at 30 FPS so I wouldn’t worry too much about 144 hz, but the new consoles will support variable refresh rates, so get one with freesync support (since they are using AMD GPU’s). The consoles support HDR really well, so you might want to look into that, but I think that technology is still rare in monitors and very expensive.
For gmaing monitor sI usually suggest ultra wide ones, because man they are awesome and a sweetspot for gaming performance over 4K, but consoles are unlikely to support those… possibly ever, so make sure you don’t get an ultra wide, stick with 16:9. And consoles still don’t support any resolution between 1080p and 4k very well if at all. So you’ll probably want to go for a 4k monitor vs 1080p, especially if you are thinking of picking up a PS5.
