Time for another beer thread.
Looking to see what else is out there.
My tastes lean very strongly towards the California/Oregon type beers.
- Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
- Anchor Steam
3 ???
So, what else would you suggest?

Have you tried the Rogue ales?
What he said.
That said, my favorite beers are the sunny, summery wheat beers. My alltime favorite beer isn’t made anymore, I think: Bell’s Solsun Ale.
I’m drinking a Bridgeport Brown Ale right now. I also highly recommend their bottle-conditioned IPA.
Bridgeport’s India Pale Ale.
Quite possibly my favorite beer (certainly my favorite American beer).
Rogue Dead Guy Ale makes my SO drool. I’m fond of the Shakespeare Stout myself, especially when a draft pint of it accompanies a bread bowl full of clam chowder. Black Butte Porter is my all 'round favorite drinking beer. Hair of the Dog is probably not easy to find outside of the PNW, but if you find any of them, try them. Fred is especially nommy.
Delicious and inexpensive make Red Hook’s Long Hammer IPA a definate winner in my book, but I’m a sucker for any IPA. My favorite used to be McEwan’s IPA, but then they changed the name and the formula to McEwan’s Export, which isn’t as hoppy.
But if I’m at the store and only have a minute, it’s going to be Guinness Extra Stout. The ones in the short stubby bottles with no widgets or anything.
Unless it’s really hot or I’m just going fishing, then it’s usually LaCrosse Lager, which is what the real Old Style is called these days after selling the name to SAB Miller.
But then again…
Yuengling Porter. Heaven in a bottle.
Solsun was simple renamed as Oberon after a lawsuit because someone (Molson?) had a claim to the name. Oberon is alive and well, although it’s only brewed in the summer months. A great beer, no doubt about it.
For the OP, based on what you say you like, if you can get Lefft Hand where you live I highly recommend Left Hand Sawtooth. Yum Yum Yum.
I’d give a front tooth if they’d only distribute Yuengling in Illinois…
If you can find it down there:
Alaskan Amber
Alaskan Pale Ale
Alaskan Summer Ale
I’ve had Rogue Dead Guy Ale on draft and it was respectable.
If you can find it in your neck of the woods, try Three Floyd’s Gumballhead. When Bell’s wasn’t being distributed in Illinois, Gumballhead was my back-up beer for when Oberon ran out. They’re both American wheats, but Gumballhead has a crisper, hoppier nose and taste than Oberon (which is to be expected, coming from hop-loving Three Floyd Brewery.) I used to hate American wheats, but Oberon and Gumballhead turned me around on that.
I like Thailand’s Singha beer, but it’s definitely not for everyone. People either love it or hate it.
Beer Lao, from Laos, seems to receive universal praise, and I know it’s available in some US and European markets. Australia, too, I think.
Anything from Trappist monks in Belgium is truly excellent. Really.
Stone Brewery ArrogantBastard
The brewery advertises this as a “very aggressive beer”. They’re not kidding.
Anchor Steam is my “always in the fridge beer” and while I did like A.B,it does have a raw/harsh quality to the taste that not everyone will like. It’s well worth worth a try.
Stone Brewing. I find Arrogant Bastard to be unbalanced, but their regular pale ale and IPA to be superb.
Awesome.
Hey, anyone but me ever tried Moose Drool? It’ll put hair on your teeth.
Singha: I like some of those skunky, Dutch-style beers; Singha tastes like Grolsch with a little bit of, what, pine? It’s good, great with hot food.
Good stuff!
Leinenkugel brews a couple good beers, too. I like their Honey Wheat (and that’s saying something, because I don’t normally like wheat beers) and the Creamy Dark.
EDIT: You’re in Arizona, aren’t you? You may not be able to find them there, it’s mostly a Midwestern thing.
If you like SN Pale Ale, try a sixer of their Celebration Ale this winter (it’s a seasonal). It’s one of the best IPAs I’ve ever had. It’s balanced, but it has a nice hop kick too.
There’s nothing wrong with Rogue, but you can get equal or better brews for less money. They are overpriced for what they are.
