Suggested late '30s/early '40s flicks set against the coming of WWII?

Moody Bastard, thanks for filling in some of the details on The Mortal Storm. Aside from the part of the story I mentioned, the only other things I remembered about the movie was the climax that had Stewart and Margaret Sullivan trying to escape into Austria (or was it Switzerland?) and the jarring sight of seeing a pre-Father Knows Best/ Marcus Welby Robert Young playing a cold-blooded Nazi SOB.

Also, there was a typo in my previous entry. My sentence should say, “BTW, this obviously does not apply to movies made after America entered the war in December 1941.” Movies made after then often fell just a little bit short of depicting Nazis and Japane with horns and cloven hooves.

NDP- I remember a Mad magazine, what would you call them, “features”( ?) that satirized the same differences in pre- and post-war depictions of the Japanese as you pointed out. Funny stuff.

Ranchoth, that was Manhunt, Fritz Lang. I read the novel it was based on, Rogue Male, which was also terrific.

Behind the Rising Sun (1943)
Japanese man (J. Carrol Naish) urges his Americanized son to become involved in Sino-Japanese war during 1930s.
Flying Tigers (1942) John Wayne and freinds fight in China vs. Japan before 12/07/41
