I’m not going to cite any specific examples because there are always loads floating about. It really gets on my tits when a poster starts a pit thread to rant about something in the news, or something another poster said elsewhere on the boards, and doesn’t link to the thing they’re ranting about. You may have just written the most justified rant ever, but if other posters don’t know what you’re raving about, what’s the point?
I submit posters who do this should have their threads closed. Reason: Lack of effort. I’m not saying warn them or anything. Just close the thread and ask them to do another one with a link.
It’s the Pit - if there’s no link, just turn the Pitting on the Pitter, the problem becomes self-correcting.
Oh, and as an aside, the next time someone cries “But there’s no link!” when there’s a perfectly good quote with clickable blue arrow in the OP, they deserve a Pitting of their very own. Learn how the Board software works, FFS.
It’s a stupid idea and a waste of time. There are enough stupid threads on the board; we don’t need to add to the clutter by making the same thread twice.
Sometimes people forget and they come back and add them to a subsequent post. Sometimes someone else will add a link. The problem is mostly self-correcting.
What’s next, closing threads in Comments on Cecil’s Columns if they don’t have links? 'Cause there’s a ton of them there, you know.
Actually, waaaaaaay back in the day, it was a pit-thread rule that if you were doing a parody pitting, you had to link to the original, so the OP’s suggestion isn’t that far out there.
I was in favor of it back then. Nowdays? I doubt I’d support it.
I will try my best to keep an integrity to my posts, with links, quotes or any other thing that I can think of.
I have to do that anyway, or I forget what I a doing. So, I leave a trail of crumbs, so I can find my way home.
Hansel and Gretel should have done that…no wait, they did! &%#@$^&
OK, I will be a good boy for now…but, it may not last.
