Suggestion: Users report own posts

Howdy! I had another little suggestion for you guys. Currently we can report other users’ posts to the moderators, but not our own. This function was designed to be used in disciplinary situations obviously (which is why we can’t report our own posts), but a lot of boards these days use it for anything that requires moderator attention: typos, coding errors, accidental spoilers, whatever.

There’s a conditional in the postbit template that dictates whether the “Report Bad Post” icon is displayed. Removing that tag tells the system to display the link on every post. This would be very handy for anyone who makes a mistake on their post and needs to notify the moderators.

If you decide to do this and need specifics I’ll dig them up for you. The only messageboards I have access to at the moment are all vBulletin 3.5, otherwise I’d look it up now. I can install the old version and check it out though if need be.

Thanks!

Great idea! I love it!

We’ve discussed it many times, and the Moderators all agree that it would be a great idea, but I’ll let TubaDiva report on the status.

It’s apparently a “feature” of vBulletin not to allow self-reporting. There’s an FAQ on the vB message boards about how to turn this off and it’s literally a 2 line change in a script but I understand the techs are leery about modifying scripts.

I have requested to Jerry that he institute this change.

He has not yet done so.

I can request it again and I will do that.

It’s up to him to decide to put it in or not.
