True. If you look and see that 2 lights have the same CREE chip and one says 800 lumens and the other says 1200, then the second guy is probably using penis lumens (similar concept to penis inches).

Yep, lumens = lumens, but honest measurement is the key.
Surefire is a reputable company making high-quality, well-engineered lights since 1985. There are a couple of decent competitors, but the Trustfire and other wannabes and Asian knock-offs don’t have the engineering, reflector design, or voltage control systems that produce the right kind of light, beam, and performance that Surefire does. Just throwing some CREES and 18v in a tube doesn’t mean you’ll get the same thing they do.
Searching Candlepower Forums is indeed a great way to learn what will melt your Cordoba’s front seat with light alone, vs. something that overheats and melts its own circuits. There are a number of guys that post pix and videos of each light, and compare a lot side by side. They do an awesome job.
Not as awesome as the penis lumens, but good, nonetheless.
