Suggestions for car to replace Jetta TDI?

I have a Prius and hate it, so does my wife (though we are keeping it). Don’t want another.

BMW or Audi seem like good choices, except for price–I feel like it would be twice the money, and a second mortgage if you need repairs. Am I wrong?

Good deals are to be found on used BMW’s. I’ve got a bunch and find them pretty reliable and easy/cheap to repair if they do need anything. But I do all my own work, so…

I don’t think we’re mortally opposed to another VW. I hope they’ll offer good deals to current owners…

We have had a good experience with maintenance on the VW, part of the reason we liked it in the first place was reading on Consumer Reports that they had gotten more reliable. I’m not really sure how the latest kerfuffle factors in to that.

I just bought a Mazda CX-5, which is the mid-sized SUV, and I’m really liking it. Sounds like perhaps the smaller CX-3 may be more the size you’re looking for, but I can’t vouch for that model. My sales guy didn’t seem to think much of it.

Take a look at the Ford C-Max. It’s a hybrid with a very wagon-like shape but supposedly (I haven’t driven one) drives much better and more comfortably than the Prius.
