Suicide and Letting Them Know

There is a difference between reminding people that their choices affect others, and telling them that if they kill themselves, their loved ones all will suffer horribly as a result. The former can be done compassionately. The latter is emotional blackmail and a guilt trip. I’ll freely admit it’s a guilt trip with the best of intentions, but it’s a guilt trip all the same.

Don’t kill yourself.

And, tell them all if you do. Knowing is important.

P.S. Don’t. Really. Bridge jumpers who wind up surviving almost all say they knew it was a horrible mistake as soon as they jumped. Which I hate having to say because it always makes me cry. Just don’t, anyway.

Sorry you feel that way, but it doesn’t make it any less true. Suicide causes unfathomable pain to the family and friends left behind. I know.

Yes.
