“Lay Lady Lay” is only helpful if you want to prove to someone that Dylan can’t sing worth beans. Then it is perfect.
Well, ya know..have you heard him lately?
My fav Dylan song is Isis I heard it for the forst time on a mixed tape my mom recorded in the 70s. Changed by idea of what goodmusic was. My dad also exposed me to his record collection when I was younger, Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd, CCR
I had a good musical upbringing.
Speaking of BOC, Don’t Fear the Reaper
Yeah, I could do Monkey Gone to Heaven, too. I think Bone Machine has a little more of that anarchic energy that the Pixies are known for, but Monkey Gone to Heaven has got most of the Pixies signature on that. Or I could just point someone to the Chris Morris parody. The only thing missing is Kim Deal-style harmonizing vocals. I’m pretty impressed by the Joey Santiago guitar pastiche.
I’m a big Pumpkins fan, too, and that would be difficult for me to pick. I guess it depends on what we’re showcasing. Billy could write tight pop songs as well as expansive numbers like “Through the Eyes of Ruby” or “Porcelina of the Vast Oceans.” I’d probably suggest “Mayonaise [sic]” or “Soma” myself.
For the early Beatles I would go with I Must Be In Love
Surely “Big Red Car” or “Fruit Salad?”
Nah, it’s gotta be “Rockabye your Bear” for the Wiggles.
“Pot kettle black” is a better nomination for Wilco than my suggestion - “Less than you think”
Nope. Quack Quack. It sums them up. Greg does kind of a whitebread scat thing that makes Pat Boone seem hep. Anthony is, apparently, retarded. Murray laughs like an amped-up tweaker drag queen who thinks he’s Talulah Bankhead. Jeff is on the nod. And the song has the word “cock” in it about 6 million times.
If that doesn’t summarize The Wiggles, I don’t know what does.
I take offense that you are insinuating that the word cock means anything other than chicken in a Wiggles Song.
For Slayer it’s indisbutably Reign In Blood.
RUN-DMC it’s King of Rock
The B-52’s - Rock Lobster
Barry White - Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe
Big Country - In A Big Country
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Blondie - Heart of Glass
For me, Buddy Guy is best represented by his scorching version of Junior Kimbrough’s Baby Please Don’t Leave Me.
Butthole Surfers - Cherub
I kind of agree with Dire Straits’ Romeo & Juliet, but would also nominate Skateaway.
Fugazi - Repeater
The Gap Band - Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me) (but it was hard to choose)
Ohio Players - Fire
The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
Rush - 2112
I agree with Prodigy Smack My Bitch Up
or Firestarter
because they both sound so much alike!
However, VooDoo People
[spoiler]THE PRODIGY - voodoo people (original) - YouTube their best song, IMHO
B-52’s are better served by “Channel Z” than “Rock Lobster.”
This and Mohammed’s Radio were the first two that came to mind for me.
You can get a good dose of Deal, voice and bass, if you go with “Where Is My Mind.”
I’d pick Wouldn’t It be Nice
Bob Seger: Old Time Rock and Roll
Tom Petty: Refugee
Oh but Breathe is also really good
I can’t decide on just one song for Prodigy!
So tempted by “22 Going On 23”…
Really? I would have gone with I Just Want to Touch You
The important thing, and I think we can all agree here, is that it isn’t Love Shack.
I would have to go with Who Are You because of the lyrics. WGFA is certainly their mega-anthem, but for me the confessional nature of Pete’s tale in Who Are You packs a greater emotional punch.
April, why are you spoilering your links? Unless they are NSFW, it’s not necessary.
