When you were in school, did you celebrate your birthday before the school year began, or the following summer? IOW, did you turn 7 before 1st grade began, or after it ended?
Born in August. Turned six the month before I started first grade.
Ditto.
This made me one of the youngest people in my class for my entire scholastic career, for what that’s worth.
But as a result, I was 17 when I graduated high school.
I was a June baby, and I was 17 when I finished high school.
Ditto. June 4th, 1976. Exactly one month off from being a true bicentennial baby. I was a smart well-adjusted kid so being one of the youngest was never a problem for me, but all the same I’m glad my kids are going to have a bit of an age advantage. My daughter’s birthday is in November, so she’ll turn six right after starting kindergarten. My son was born in January, so not quite as much an advantage, but still better than summer! I figure it can’t hurt, and it might help a lot.
August 5. I was one of the youngest in the class. Couldn’t buy cigarettes for myself until I was a few weeks away from college.
From K4 thorough 8th grade, all at the same school with pretty much the same classmates, there was two younger then me. One was August 28 and the other was (IIRC) September 2.
I think we must have had a different system because I didn’t fully understand the question until I read the responses. Everyone in my elementary school class was born in the same year. No mid-year cutoff, seems strange to me.
I’m an August baby, and I was also 17 when I graduated high school. I was one of the youngest people in my class, but my best friend was the youngest. She has an October birthday, she came from another state that had a later cut-off date.
I was born August 4th. I was 6 when I started 1st grade, and 17 when I graduated High School. I was always one of the youngest in my class.
