summer reading recommendations?

Can anyone recommend any interesting reading for me this summer? I need something relatively light, that I can read during slow periods at my summer job.

Vonnegut is my favorite author, but I’ve finished with all of his stuff. Does anyone know an author that a Vonnegut fan would enjoy–something with humor, yet not pointless?

(I know, there is no author quite like Vonnegut, but you know what I mean.)

Thanks for any suggestions/recommendations!

Have you tried any John Irving? You might want to check out the Rabbit series, or A Prayer for Owen Meaney.

The Rabbit series is by John Updike ( who is a much better writer than Irving).

I did like Rabbit, Run when I read it in college, but I never checked out the subsequent ones. (Weren’t there three more in all?)

Updike is a good suggestion.
