The song that screams hot, sweaty summer to me has nothing to do with the season, but it was thee song of the summer of 1978: the Stones’ “Miss You.”
Stumblin’ on mah feet…shufflin’ t’roo da street…askin’ people…chk chk chk…Whatsa matter witchoo, boy???

And it’s companion piece, “Up on the Roof” by Goffin and King and from the same album, I believe. Away from the rat race noise.
“Dock of the Bay”
“Starry-Eyed Surprise” <which surprises me, but it really just sounds like an evening party outside at dusk, very light and pretty>
And yes, that damnable ice cream truck, argh!
I can’t believe I forgot “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Croft! One of the best summer hits of all time!
And “Sailing” by Christopher Cross!

Ice cream trucks around here play Music Box Dancer .
Seriously? No Jimmy Buffett yet? Summer isn’t summer without ‘Margaritaville.’
Virtually every song I could think of (“A Summer Song” most especially) has been listed, save for this moody little number*:
*Perhaps in the sense of “something that numbs” . . .

From that era:
Soft Summer Breeze
A Song for a Summer Night
The Summer Knows (Michel Legrand from Summer of '42 )
And one I associate with summer, Glen Campbell’s Southern Nights .
Then you might like “Bikini Girls with Machine Guns” by The Cramps.
The vast majority of David Lee Roth era Van Halen and just about every Bob Marley tune say “summer” to me.
Pretty much everything Sublime ever recorded, not just “Summertime.” The song that specifically gives me that “summer” feeling is “Badfish .”

Only if that tall glass is filled with absinthe.
Great call.
I always associate The Doors “Light My Fire” with summertime. The first dozen or so times I ever heard it, it was the shorter, single version on A.M. radio. The first time I heard the full version (on FM) I was a teenager laying on a beach near St. Petersburg, Florida. It blew me away. I can still smell the coconut sun tan lotion (not sunscreen!).
Heard Bananarama’s Venus (warning-80’s video) on the radio this morning-hot summer fun!
