School’s Out For Summer! (Alice Cooper)

Oh, come on, you people are just naming songs with “summer” in the title. that’s really not the question that was asked. Try:

“Grazing in the Grass” the Fifth Dimension’s version
“Rise”
“Livin in the USA” by the Steve Miller Band
“White Bird” by It’s A Beautiful Day
“Hypnotized” by Fleetwood Mac

Somehow, Evil Captor, I interpreted this to ask

“What Song(s) Mean Summer to You?”

with the “you” to refer to the person responding.

In my case, the songs I listed mean “summer” to “me.”

My synaesthesia (mostly gone now) doesn’t extend to limiting the time of year for a piece of music, but here are a few rather summery songs:

“Feel Like Makin’ Love” (Bad Company) --pretty much like early June.
“Boys of Summer” (Don Henley) --natch.
“Back to Life” (Soul II Soul) --or is that spring?
“Power and the Passion” (Midnight Oil) --in a totally different way, but I can see the sun on the tin roof.
“Hungry Town” (Big Pig) --or maybe it’s another song on the Young Einstein soundtrack.

Dancing in the Streets
Summer in the City

For some odd reason, the Black Crows’ first album. Driving around with the windows down and some good southern rock does it for me.

Will Smith’s “Summer Time” does it for me. Makes me feel like I’m at a poolside BBQ.

If I may append my list?

Half a Boy and Half a Man Nick Lowe. There’s something about that Farfisa organ that makes me think of The Swingin’ Medallions’ Double Shot of My Baby’s Love.

So that’s two more for ya’

Mama Told Me Not To Come (Three Dog Night)

Cowboy (Kid Rock)

OH YEAH! I totally forgot about TDN. How could I?

Bus Stop by the Hollies.

When I was a kid, we went on one of the very best vacations of my life, and that song (and Summer in the City were getting lots of airplay.

I’ve always associated Bus Stop with happy summer times.
