What Song(s) Mean Summer to You?

Jack and Diane by John (Cougar) Mellencamp
The Way by Fastball
Beautiful Stranger by Madonna
L.A. Woman by The Doors
Chatahoochie by Alan Jackson
Kiss from a Rose by Seal

Each remind me of particular summers.

“A Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy. Best summer song that’s actually about summer.

Boys are Back in Town is the first one I thought of…

hung up on semantics?

How so?

Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? - Lovin’ Spoonful (Summer 1966)
Him Or Me - Paul Revere & the Raiders (Summer 1967)
Nothing But A Heartache - The Flirtations (Summer 1969)
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress - Hollies (Summer 1972)
Kodachrome - Paul Simon (Summer 1973)
Driver’s Seat - Sniff ‘n’ the Tears - (Summer 1979)

“My Sharona” by the Knack
“Driver’s Seat” by Sniff and the Tears
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
“Mirrors” by Blue Oyster Cult
“Come Sail Away” by Styx
“Burning Down the House” by The Talking Heads

And…“The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire…”…My research tells me that’s The Bloodhound Gang. I don’t know if it was popular during the summer…just that it was played in a bar one summer when I was hanging out with my friends.

American Independence Day songs always feel like summer. A good one is Stars and Stripes Forever, that just screams 4th of July.

Saturday in the Park - Chicago

Sounds of Then - Gangajang. Nothing summons up those hot, humid, January days on the verandah like this one.
Deep Water - Richard Clapton. Actually, most stuff by Richard Clapton.
Breakfast at Sweethearts - Cold Chisel
Come Said the Boy - Mondo Rock
I’ll Be Gone - Spectrum

Anything by Belle and Sebastian.

The Kinks’ “Sunny Afternoon”

Well, Z, I was using the term loosely as it refers to language in general. Maybe I should have said you’re being a bit legalistic…

Anyway, you really don’t know me that well but a lot of what I say like that is tongue in cheek and/or sarcastic humor. So I wasn’t being rude…

The reason I quoted your entire post was to explain to Evil Captor why I thought my response was in accord with the OP.

I had no quarrel with your post, but since it was the statement of what you wanted to see in the thread, I thought that the choices I posted were in the spirit of the OP.

Evil Captor seemed to think otherwise, so I was wanting to get some clarification.

I didn’t see your comment as rudeness, but it did make me wonder if you saw that my comments were addressed to Evil Captor and not to you.

Perhaps I should have omitted your song titles, or maybe put Evil Captor in bold or italics.

I notice we are both rather new to SDMB (at least in terms of sign-up date) so I can agree that we don’t know each other all that well.

Sorry if I sounded legalistic or hung up on semantics.

You know what’s really funny (come on, you know it is) …

I thought you were calling me an evil captor. SWL. I didn’t even see that there was a “real” EC. roflol

I think I read it after too many glasses of wine…

. . . Brings me right back to the late '60s: no school! but camp, dammit!

Since i first heard it in primary school:

Echo Beach, by Martha and the Muffins.

Eve,

On the flip side of that song, my favorite one that starts around August is a commercial … the Staples one…

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”

And the dad is skipping thru the isles and playing while he picks up school supplies and his two kids trudge behind him all glum. Man that makes me laugh every time AND it reminds me that in a few weeks, my kids will be back to school! YAY

I’ll see your Echo Beach and raise you a “Mimi on the Beach” by Jane Sibbery

Also:

1980
I Love You – Climax Blues Band
Little Jeannie – Elton John
My Sharona – The Knack
Hungry Heart – Bruce
It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me – Billy Joel

1983
Major Tom (Coming Home) – Peter Schilling
Safety Dance – Men w/o Hats

1984
The Reflex – Duran Duran

1985
Invincible – Pat Benetar

1986
April Fool – Chalk Circle
How Many – Luba

Okay, that’s enough I suppose.

“Take It Easy” (the original version on Jackson Browne’s second album, not the Eagles’ version). First chords of that ring out and I’ve got the top down and the sunglasses on.

::GASP!!:: That would be 1979. I’m so ashamed. :smack:
