sun and sneezing

Every time I go outside and the sun is shining, I sneeze. The sun doesn’t put out any dust or stuff like that, so why do I sneeze?

A well-known columnist, Cecil Adams, has addressed the issue in one of his articles:
Why do some people sneeze when going out into bright light?
You can also find the article in one of his entertaining and well-written books.

I cough when I taste salt. The docs told me that it was similar to sneezing in the sun. Nice to know there is no allergy, but still does not help the poor folks across the table from me.

I do this too.

But not just when I first go out, I can do it on demand. If ever I feel like a really good sneeze, I just look up at the sun.

I always liked to think its because Im more at one with nature than other people. Thats why I have a direct link with our star.

But I suspect the truth will be somewhat more mundane.
