I got a sunburn on Wednesday after a day at the beach which I wore NO sunscreen! I could kick myself for that! Now 2 days later I’m itchy…itchy I tells ya! I tried aloe vera…lotion…cold ice cubes in a bag and agggh it still itches. I look like a cooked lobster. I’m a very pale white milky skin person and this is agony on my skin. I took 2 Advils already…I think I need more. Aghh! I can’t sleep and I can’t wear clothing because it’s very itchy. What are your sunburn care tips?
I feel for you, Cherry and I would not even dream of making a joke at the expense of your user name.
So here’s Aunt koee’s home remedy: brew some black tea, let it cool and soak an old sheet or piece of soft cloth in it. Lay the cloth on the burn. It’s always worked amazingly well for me.
Hope you feel better soon.
Ouch, Cherry! I got a sunburn on Saturday at the beach THROUGH MY CLOTHES. And I’m olive complected.
Hie thee to the store and get a can of some stuff called Dermoplast. Failing that, some aloe-vera gel with benzocaine added to it.
Ya beat me to it, Sausage. Dermoplast is good stuff. Solarcaine is good too.
Make sure you keep yourself moisturized. Peeling sucks ass. But if you do start peeling, I’ll come over and peel your crusties off. I come from a long line of pickers…
Mr. S swears by soaking in a cool tub of water to which you have added several generous glugs of plain white vinegar. I’ve tried it and he’s right. Gives you an interesting aroma, but it takes the sting right out and you won’t care what you smell like.
Please try it! You will be a happy camper.
Plain old aspirin has worked best for me. That, and witch hazel seems to feel pretty good on a sunburn, and so does Dermoplast and the aloe gel with the benzocaine.
Hell, just keeping it well lotioned so that it doesn’t dry out helps a lot. Something kinda greasy like Eucerin or Lubriderm seems to work best for me.
Oddly, when I’ve hit Lobster Mode (ow!) burns, I’ve had good luck getting into a hot spa. It hurts like a sonofabitch at first, but the skin burns seem to benefit a great deal. YMMV
Applying copious amounts of (plain) yoghurt to the affected parts not only cools and soothens but also takes your mind off the terrible pain. And it’s interesting to watch it dry up and imagine yourself being a toaster oven. Then again, maybe that’s just me.
