MissTake , I feel your pain. I very seldom go to our cabin on Lake Harding on weekends anymore because it seems like ever person over the age of 10 either has a personal watercraft or a boat with a motor big enough to launch the damned thing into orbit. No peace and quiet at all on weekends. It’s not as bad during the week, when most of them have either gone home or gone to work.
We had a lovely camping event this past weekend rather spoiled by contantly racing motorboats. The bulk of our group fantasized about catapulting Greek fire on them.
It was very pleasantly schadenfreude to watch one of them get pulled over by a police boat.

The biggest problem I have with electric mowers is the cord. Mey neighbor’s lot is 50 x 100, and he mows with an electric. It’s not THAT much quieter than my 6.5HP Toro, but it is much quieter than the cheaper MTDs and Craftsmans out there. My lot is 100 x 150, and you’re not supposed to use extension cords longer than 50 or 75 feet with those mowers, so I can’t use them. And the rechargeable ones simply don’t have the power to cut the grass if it’s a little wet or long.
Yeah, unfortunately, the rechargables aren’t really there yet. It’ll be great when they are tho’. And, shoot, I definitely agree that with a really big lot, you’re gonna need a gas mower. (I grew up on an acre lot with dense St. Augustine grass in Florida, we were out there every freaking weekend) But I just wanted to point out that electric mowers can be a good alternative for the smaller lots.

But, go ahead and be that guy . You’re the big man. It’s ain’t illegal to mow my lawn on Sunday morning at 9:00 and that’s when I’m gonna fucking mow it. Ain’t no one telling Turek when he’s gonna mow his fucking lawn unless they want to come over and fucking do it themselves, god damn it. This is still America isn’t it!!
I had a nice reply all written out, full of invective and profanities, but I’ll pass on posting it. QED said it much better and without the anger.
Well, pal, some people aren’t so fortunate as to be able to pick a time to do yard work which is convenient for their neighbors. Not everyone works M-F, 9-5, y’know. The other part of living in a society is putting up with things which don’t exactly fit in with your idea of how things ought to work because some people just can’t manage to get everything done that they need to do when YOU want them to.
Suffice it to say I’m sorry (but not apologetic) that my schedule doesn’t jibe with what YOU think it should be. Deal with it.

A rather timely article on the search for quiet from the NYT.
Move to Germany, AFAIK lawnmowing on a Sunday is banned.
