I once again look to the collective brilliance of you all, hoping that you can satisfy my curiosity.
I was reading that sunless tanning lotions are no longer dyes and actually stimulate the production of the pigments in the skin. I’m going on the assumption that this is correct, as I decided t buy some for the first time in years, and though a bit uneven on my first couple of applications, it looks pretty darn good.
But here comes the interesting part. As I am, clinically speaking, 3 shades of white away from having pink eyes, I tend to burn like a sumbitch. Further, there is no tanning for me. There is no moderate amount of time that I can spend in the sun and have my tan (haha) darken slightly but not burn. I either don’t change color, or the lobster-esque crimson sets in immediately.
Since tanned people take longer to burn in the sunlight (absorption of the rays by the melanin?), and since my tan, while fake, is the result in an increase of skin pigment rather than simple dying, does this mean that I should now be able to stay longer in the sun without burning?
