Oddly enough, outside the stadium, I saw a Steeler fan with a Batman cowl.
It all depends on his price. There is no doubt he’s a damn good inside pass rusher and a great fit for the 3-4 But he’s also 30, an injury risk, and may want too much money to play a position that, to be honest, isn’t the highest priority for the Packers. With Raji’s emergence, Jolly’s return, a couple projects in the wings, and Mike Neal (who I really like, but he needs to develop some more rush moves), I’m not sure he’d be worth it. The 3-4 is built for linebackers, and I think that’s where they should spend their money. I like Cullen, but he may pull a Corey Williams and price himself out of Green Bay.
If he doesn’t renegotiate his contract, I agree. But if he decides that Green Bay has a potential great run here and he wants to be a part of it and that he’ll play for less, he’d be more than welcome to stay. I’d want to know if Barnett is completely healthy before I let Hawk go.
He’s so damn frustrating. You can see his obvious skills at being where he should be and running after the catch, but those hands are killing him. He missed yet another TD catch Sunday, one that would have been a big dagger in the heart. If they can get good value, I have no problem with him leaving, simply because of his lack of consistency. Between him and Jordy, I like Jordy a bit better.
A. J. Hawk was to me the greatest beneficiary of Clay Matthews. The pressure came off him, and he blossomed into a damn fine player. He’s not good enough to be the man on a defense, but he is one hell of a contributor.
As Hamlet mentioned its all about his contract. I think he is due a $10 million b onus at the beginning of next year.
Grew up in the seventies watching a procession of horrible horrible Packer teams stink it up every season. Never thought I’d see them be in a Super Bowl much less when one until they did so in '96.
This one’s better though. The Patriots were not that great a team in '96 and what the Pack had to do just to get to this one was amazing. It’s tough to find a quarterback who has ever had a better post season than Rodgers did this year.
Still hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
Oh yeah, Dom Capers is a freaking genius. Best DC in football.
Peter King made an interesting observation today that GB owes a nod of the head to the Lions and Eagles for helping make this playoff path possible. GB, the 6th seed and last Wild Card team at 10-6 won tiebreakers against the 10-6 Giants and 10-6 Bucs. The Giants would have been 11-5 had not DeSean Jackson run back that punt with 14 seconds left in regulation of a 31-31 game and the Bucs would have been 11-5 had not the Lions won their first road game in 3 years on first a game-tying and then OT field goal by Dave Rayner. Dave Raynor was cut to make room for Mason Crosby in '06 by… yep, the Packers.
An interesting path that GB definately made the most of.
While that’s true, but for a couple of similar breaks the Packers would’ve beaten out the Bears for the NFC North title. In the words of the late great Dandy Don, if wishes and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a Merry Christmas.
This sounds like fun.
Yeah, I couldn’t snag a ticket!
But it’s now below zero at Lambeau, and I have to work tomorrow, so I’ll just watch the party on TV with no regrets.
And, as a fringe benefits, your testicles won’t crawl inside your body cavity to avoid dropping off from the cold. Unless there’s something you’re not telling us about your TV room.
A few more thoughts on the game:
-
Where the hell was Troy Polamalu? It wasn’t until Jennings torched his sorry ass in the 4th quarter that I even remembered he existed, let alone was the Defensive player of the year. Even now, I can’t think of a single play he made (outside of tackling people after 20+ yard completions). I don’t know if that’s on LaBeau or McCarthy’s gameplan, or what, but he completely disappeared in the biggest game.
-
Sam Shields had a great year, but he never should have been put back into the lineup after his injury. He basically gave Wallace a touchdown. After the whole Cutler fiasco, I appreciate a guy wanting to play while injured, but he clearly wasn’t the same player and his macho hurt, not helped, his team.

You gotta wonder about Driver and Woodson. Two old players winning their first Super Bowls, but both injured and unable to finish. It’s a little sad they weren’t able to make a huge impact in their biggest game. But Woodson’s absence was a serious blow to that defense. I really hope he comes back for a year or two.
Polamalu was hurt. The analysts are speculating that he was operating at 75% and that as a result LeBeau schemed to have him playing center field all day. Supposedly Clark was playing up in the box in the role Troy usually assumes.
Is Woodson thinking about hanging it up? I haven’t heard any whispers of that. He seems like he’s still going strong. Driver might hang it up and walk off into the sunset after getting a ring, but I can’t imagine Woodson is there yet.
Woodson’s under contract until 2014 IIRC, and he’s still pretty darn good. It was more fear than anything else. Watching how their pass defense fell apart when he and Shields were out was a tad bit scary. Like watching the Steelers secondary.
