Supergirl

But wasn’t Henshaw the one who stabbed her with the kryptonite knife? I had thought that he was the person in the shadow talking to her, but that wouldn’t make sense for him to stab her then. It wasn’t like a fake fight thing so everyone wouldn’t think they were together, she definitely didn’t want to be stabbed by that. Maybe I’m misremembering, I wasn’t paying full attention. The red eyes seem to be something bad, and he could be a bad guy, but someone unaffiliated.

I’m not yet convinced Henshaw is necessarily a bad guy, he just has a mystery to him thus far. Red eyes seem evil, and it seems like a secret that big is also a negative, but for all we know he’s a robot from the future sent to save Sarah Connor.

I thought it was a shapeshifter having taken Henshaw’s place. Notice that Henshaw has always called Kara “Miss Danvers” but here the apparent Henshaw slipped and called her “Supergirl.”

Where did the Hellgramite get to?

Come to think of it, you’ve never seen them in the same room together…

The Hellgramite was killed by Supergirl’s non-powered sister, Alex, using super DEO anti-alien martial arts. It did happen in the dark, so it was easy to miss.

I was also annoyed at Henshaw’s “hmm, I have a knife that can wound Kryptonians, should I stab her in the heart? The eye? Any other vital organ? Nope, definitely go for the arm and lose the knife in the process”.

FWIW, in the Comics, Hank Henshaw…

…eventually becomes Cyborg Superman, who starts as a good guy and quickly becomes a bad guy.

He wasn’t so helpful last time.

He’s a red android, but his eyes are usually shown as white. Here’s what he’s going to look like in the show:
http://nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Supergirl-Red-Tornado-09212015.jpg
As an old-school comic book fan … I appreciate what these shows are doing. I was initially turned off by these, canonically “solo” heroes needing support teams behind them. But that’s because I’m “old”. I had to readjust my expectations, and realize that, "HEY!! IT’S 2015! If these characters showed up IRL, they would be found out in like, 2 days. That’s why I don’t have a problem any more with heroes immediately disclosing their identity to their close friends.

But Ep.2 of Supergirl aired at a completely excellent/poignant moment for me. The bit where she didn’t think that she could do an interview with Cat not recognizing her, and James said, “she doesn’t even look at you now” (or something like that). I’m re-reading Terry Pratchett’s “Discworld” series, and right now I’m reading Interesting Times. And Rincewind, while running away, disguises himself as a peasant, because he has figured out that the “powerful people” don’t actually look at the peasants.

Man, I hope that promo shot isn’t how it turns out in the real thing. Some superheroes look damn goofy when translated to real life.

How does she land vertically at high speed without her skirt blowing up around her waist?

Willpower.

Yeah, I thought about that too. But now she has the kryptonite and is aware of it. Sneaky, right?

Although she was talking to the shadowy figure as well. Maybe this theory doesn’t work.

The skirt is lined with unabotonium?

BTW, umm, HOW MANY friends has Kara shared her secret with?

What was that old saying? About three men being able to keep a secret IF -

I thought maybe the knife was not Kryptonite, because how could these people not know about Kryptonite yet? When they shot Supergirl with Kryptonite needles, the explained it to her as if the substance needed no introduction.

I was wondering the same thing. I don’t think they ever actually said the knife was kryptonite, just that it was of unknown origin or something like that. I’ve not read that many of the books. Is there anything else other than kryptonite that can hurt them? Shards from some other planet, maybe?

I thought James moved to National City at Superman’s request to keep an eye on his cousin and that he was already made aware of her identity. Not that she was aware that he knew when she told him.

Yes, James was either told Kara’s identity by Superman, or figured it out himself. Either way, Kara was surprised when he told her that he knew. And of course, her sister already knew as well, and presumably Henshaw found out through her.

The only person Kara has actually revealed her secret to of her own volition is Winn.

Yeah, that did make his little “I just wanted to see if I could make it on my own” speech fall flat…

It looks to me like they’re showing us a very meta question from two different angles: “Who is Supergirl?” One is from Kat Grant’s perspective as the super-elegant reporter type, looking for the human interest story, and the other is from the cops who live in the dark, trying to figure out whether she’s an asset or a liability.

I just hope the writers figure out the answer eventually.
