Superhuman effort

Hello,

I would like to know how some people can produce superhuman at some time which would not be possible by the same person at all times. Personally I have seen an old lady of about 60 climb a rock pillar 15 feet high in front of a temple in India when she was in some sort of possessed mind.

Just so we’re clear, it’s not hard to climb 15 feet… if you’re using steps. If she was doing rockclimbing, it’s another story, but I’m guessing she did manual labor all her life and her fingers and toes are quite strong. Mostly old people just like to bitch and whine how they can’t do anything because they’re old. Bah. I’d love to go around hypnotizing them to prove them wrong.

Well, fear and adrenaline can go a long way - We’ve probably all read the news reports about desperate mothers lifting cars of their trapped children and the like.

I saw a documentary relating to this subject a year or so ago (can’t remember the title or spesifics, sorry), wherein it was claimed our body is actually always capable of “super”-human strength, we’re much stronger than we think, only our pain sensors and brain limits how much strength we’re “allowed” to use, to avoid permanent damage.

This rule, of course, goes out the window in times of danger, or when under hypnosis or similar. (They actually had the presenter of the show hypnotized and then he, too, was capable of lifiting a car with what seemed like little effort, even tough he could barely budge it prior to being hypnotized)
