Supermodel type joins NYPD Blue cast

Stop the presses!

Is this a joke? I mean, I really like the show but I can’t get my mind around the concept that most female detectives are extremely hot and extremely single. This one (a blonde, nischbesser) is flirtatious to boot, and she’s maybe the fifth female in Sipowicz’s squad to also qualify for Miss World (in order of decreasing hotness, I’d rank them 1) Kim Delaney 2)Andrea Thompson 3)Jacqueline Obradors 4)the current hottie 5) Amy Brennerman 6) the one who played Sipowicz’s second wife the last few seasons, and several others I’ve forgotten–I think there was a hot uniformed-female cop or two in there as well.

Does this interfere with anyone else’s ability to accept the show as realistic? It’s gotten to the point where putting them in thong bikinis as they investigate gritty murders wouldn’t be too much more distracting.

Is this show still on?

Hah! That’s exactly the same thought I had when I saw the thread title.

I saw an ad last night where Sipowics was throwing chairs and shouting and I thought,

“Wow, there’s some unexpected drama.”

Well, no. :dubious: All you got out of Kim Delaney and Andrea Thompson was hotness? Not powerful characters, amazing writing, striking improvised scenes, and dark moral questions? Eesh. David Milch and feminists everywhere are drinking themselves to death. I just watched Charlies Angels: Angels in Hawaii (the original TV show). I guess I’m not very conflicted about the strong women in my crime drama.

All that being said… I refuse to watch new episodes of NYPD Blue. It’s too painful. Should have been cancelled when Fancy left.

Bonnie Sommerville plays new detective Laura Murphy, according to TV Tome’s NYPD page.

Wow, did Sipowicz look old! I’ve been watching reruns on CourtTV (Bobby is still around), and it actually shocked me how old he looked in the premier.

This supposedly is its last season. It’s been announced as such, but the producers have since become evasive on the subject.

I don’t think the OP said that. But it is a trifle unbelievable that every female detective that works in this precinct is beautiful.

Not only beautiful, but D-cups as well. I won’t say that it decreased my enjoyment of the show (and not that it increased it either! ), but it does stretch its credibilty. And the fact the Sipowicz hooks up with two of them doesn’t help either.

But Law & Order has the same problem with its DAs, and CSI, especially Miami, certainly has this problem as well. I just love the fact that in the season opener of CSI: Miami, the coroner walks in to work with a tank top that would seem, well, out of place where I work.

Did you ever watch Homicide? It had one of the best casts for a cop show. Absolutely everyone looked average, and half of the cops were guys in their 40’s, either balding or graying, with big guts and way too many wrinkles. The younger cops were all heading in that direction, and the show gave you a good idea of what they were going to look like 10 years down the line because of the nature of the work. Their biggest problems were stress and heart attacks.

But the ratings started to dip, and since the show never was a ratings powerhouse they had to do something, right?

Naturally, you bring in the young hotties. Out with the likes of Jon Polito, Ned Beatty, and Melissa Leo, and in with Michael Michele and John Seda. Michael’s character was supposed to be a beauty queen who gave up the runway because she wanted to be a cop. Credibility with most of these new characters was minimal, and the quality of the show hurt as a result. Character driven stories were out, gunfights with good looking people were in. But I guess when your show is threatened with cancelation, you’ll try almost anything.

The thing is, they alienated their fans without generating any new ones. It was funny because they even changed the credit sequence, adding all kinds of “Seven”-eqsque scratches, photos and sound effects while showing the actor’s solemn faces, where the original had just their names over a blurry nightime cityscape.

Are there any other cop shows out there that suffered similar indignities?

EZ

Besides Boomtown, which started out as the best cop show since, well, since Homicide, and turned into something even UPN would have snubbed?

Hill Street Blues also recruited some better looking cops in its last few years.

And of course, Barney Miller was obviously going the cheap sexploitation route when it hired Steve Landsberg.

Michael is a girl’s name?

NOW I’VE SEEN EVERYTHING!!!

Truth be told, a lot of NYPD female detectives look more like Mike tyson than a super model.

…and I’m glad this post is anonymous…

Here’s an idea. How about filling the cast with actual supermodels?

Well, with Kim Delaney there was a lot of bad acting and nostril flaring, too.
