it is my opinion that santana has one good/great song every 5-10 years and the rest is pure dee (SP) crap. i didn’t like any of what i heard of santana’s album supernatural except for smooth. for that matter, i haven’t heard any of it on the radio. does ANYBODY even know the name of one of the other songs on that album? are other songs on the album “good” in their own right or are they riding the coattails of smooth?
I really didn’t like that album either. And once smooth made the top 10 and was played on the pop stations every two hours I really didn’t like it much either. And as much as I hate to say this, I lost alot of respect for santana. (Well that’s not compleatly true, it’s more like, the the song just got so played out that I got tired of hearing Santana all together).
Well, there’s Maria, Maria, which I don’t like. Then there’s Primavera, La Portuguesa, Put Your Lights On, Corazón Espinado, Yaleo…that I can thought of right now.
The tunes vary a lot in that album, from Smooth (which sounds similar to Corazón Espinado) to Put your Lights On, to Primavera. Can’t really say they are riding the coattails of Smooth…heck, I don’t think Smooth is the best song in that album. Good yes, but not the best.
There are only two songs I don’t like in the album, and one of them is Maria Maria.
I pretty much agree with KarlGrenze. While I like the album and have listened to it a lot, Supernatural overall was pretty uneven. His new album Shaman is more consistent (and more enjoyable in my opinion).
handsomeharry, just because there were no other big radio hits from that album doesn’t mean the other songs were unworthy. I often find the opposite is true… the songs that don’t get radio play are sometimes the best on the album.
