Oh ,and purplebear, sorry to hear about your accident!
PurpleBear…I find SoBe stuff in convenient stores and gas stations in the fridgealater with all of the weird, odd and strange juices. I called their 800# yesterday and they told me that they are finally starting to get their stuff in some grocery stores and places like Sams’ Club. They have quite a few flavors, I like them all, and they are all infused with different herbs and stuff like that. Only two flavors, Power and Energy, have caffeine. (is 195mg a lot?) All of the rest are full of just good stuff. The Lean flavor is quite good. They come in 20 oz. bottle so one is usually enough for me. Look for the glass bottles with the lizard. When I get one later today I’ll give you all of their info, 800#, website…
Stick with it guys…
I lost 30-40 lbs just by changing the way I eat. I’m not much for exercise but I found that all I really needed was to move and Breathe. I did some breathing exercises (how’s that for low impact) and they did help immeasurably!!! I’ll find the breathing info that I have and I’ll share that if y’all want…
Don’t think of the now, think of the later. When you WILL look the way you want, when you WILL feel the way you want. Attitude is a HUGE part of it.
Hey Shayna. I hear you on the pizza Achilles’ Heel–I’m much the same way with, oh, everything right now.
I’ve realized that lately my lunches have been too small, and I’ve been grabbing whatever is in the teacher’s lounge (donuts, potato chips, enchiladas, etc.) to supplement my spartan yogurt and jicama. So, yesterday I went to the store and stocked up on Slim-Fast bars. They’re not a much of a meal in and of themselves, but with a banana and yogurt they fill me up well enough. I’ve been munching like crazy, just grabbing food all the time. I don’t know if it’s because I’m so busy with school and everything, or if I’m just being undisciplined. Today is when I start seriously curbing the food intake. I haven’t weighed myself in a while, though.
I’ve been exercising at least every other day for about a week now. My sinus infection and broken toes have finally healed enough to allow me to get back on the ball (it’s been about a month since I was regularly exercising, while I recuperated from illness and injury). Brian went jogging with me yesterday, and as his 6’5" frame is far more long-striding than mine, I was working quite a bit harder than usual just keeping up with him. I’m hoping he’ll join me more often–having an exercise partner really pushes me!
The other night, after some lovin’, we were curled up on the bed naked…and I was so repulsed by this pooch of fat that sags from my belly, I swear it grossed me out. Brian is so loving and wonderful, and has no problem with my body. It’s just so hard when I’m distracted by it! Sometimes I fantasize about just going in to a hospital and having a doctor cut off that aggravating bulge.
I miss having a flat tummy!
I have been reading, but haven’t had much to contribute. I am mostly good, but there have been some lapses! My real effort will start after I see the doctor next week. What I want to know is - does anyone have any good exercises for the upper back? I’ve never had this before (most of my weight is in my hips and thighs) but I do now - and it’s driving me crazy! I have a roll just about even with my bra, and it’s got to go! Any ideas?
Hi, evilbeth. Thank you for your words of sympathy,it’s aprreciated. I do understand about having lots of family around, and eating out all the time, I just went through that a few weeks ago around my son’s graduation. Short of antagonizing everyone, there’s not much you can do. At least it’s over now, and you can get back on track. Check in everyday, and I’ll be here to prod you on, or praise you, or hug you, or whatever you need. We can do this together, all of us.
Thank you Spolvy for the info. I’ll have to see if I can find it here, sounds good. I’d like the #800 also, whenever you get a chance. You are very correct, attitude is a HUGE part of being successful at this. Or quitting the cancer sticks too, for that matter. How’s it coming with that? Aren’t you glad to be smober now?!?!
Ruffian, welcome back. Haven’t heard from you in a while. I’m glad you’re exercising more, keep up the good work! I can really relate about how you feel about your body, for sure. And, it’s not Mr Bear that has a problem with it, it’s my own perception of how I look, it’s distracting enough that I only want to make love in the dark, or near darkness.
Oh, well. I am losing weight, so it will get better.
Sassy, glad to hear from you. I have the same problem, and have been trying to see what will help that. All I have figured out so far is that exercises to help your shoulders and upper arms will also benefit your upper back muscles. So, do you lift weights? And, no I don’t mean like a body builder, just strength training type stuff. If not, you should try it. I’m having a very hard time doing them right now, my left shoulder is very sore for some reason, but they were helping me, and I will start them up again as soon as my shoulder stops hurting so much. It could just be my arthritis, who knows.
Shayna, thank you so much for your support, and your kind words. You are such a sweet, kind, gentle person and it’s a pleasure to get to know you. Yes, I did read all of the first stop smoking thread, as well as the current one!
And I can still say that about you.
As for me, I’m doing well. Watching what and how much I eat, and I’ve already had almost 2liters of water today!! So, I’m getting better about that, and I got me a sport bottle that I have to suck on, and try to keep it filled with water. No measurable weight loss in almost a week, no idea why, but I’m not giving up. My clothes are getting a bit looser, so at least I’m losing inches!
I hope more people check in again. I want to hear from everyone, please!!

I’m enjoying the Energy flavor right now…a tasty citrus blend with Guarane, Yohimbe and Arginine. Dunno what any of those are supposed to do for me, but I like it. Oh yeah, this one has 195 mg of caffeine…is that a lot?
Try 'em…they’re yummy (IMHO)
Just wanted to extend my continued support to the courageous individuals in this thread as well!
Purplebear, congratulations on your impending 1000th post! I see Evilbeth and Shayna aren’t too far behind you.
I know it’s mundane compared to your valiant efforts to lose weight/quit smoking, but I’m a believer that we have to take our little victories where we can find them.
Oh, here’s this thread! I hadn’t seen it in a while. I was out of town, and before that I couldn’t get on the SDMB too well until they upgraded the connections.
I took my boyfriend back to my hometown in KY to see my grandparents and meet some of my old friends. It was a lot of fun, but as always, going on vacation is difficult when you’re trying to eat well. Especially when you’re flying and having to eat in airports. I didn’t do too badly on the way there–I had a turkey sandwich with lettuce and mustard (no mayo) and pasta salad. On the way back, though, all we had time to get between flights was McDonald’s. I hadn’t had anything that greasy in a while and it didn’t taste good at all! I didn’t even finish the burger. If I’m going to eat something that isn’t too good for me, it better be to die for!
I have regained a pound, but just like the loss was probably water, so is the gain. I’m not really worried about the number on the scale. I just want to get toned up for my trip to the beach later this summer. My boyfriend has to go to Baltimore for 3 weeks for business, and I’d love to look slightly different when I see him again. He thinks I look good the way I am, but I have a few outfits that I am just barely too big for that I’d love to wear.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
I want to wish everyone good luck with their weight loss! I haven’t read all the messages but I wanted to share a tip for the water haters – canned flavored sparkling water!
I’ve found two brands, Canada Dry and LaCroix. They come in 12-packs in lemon/lime, raspberry, lemon and plain. Canada Dry is much cheaper than LaCroix.
First you must convince yourself that you’re not drinking a soda. It will seem like it, when you first put the can to your lips and if you do, it’ll taste godawful. The first one I had was Canada Dry lemon/lime and I about gagged. It tasted like flat, icky Sprite.
But, since I bought a whole 12-pack, I had another. Now my husband and I crave them. (He recently lost more than 100 pounds!! I have lost about 20.)
…and went to the gym yesterday. Oh! My! Gawd! Am I paying for it today! I caught the tail end of a pretty mild muscle toning class. Not a bad warm-up, I thought. Then I did some stretching until the next class started. It was an “Iron Works” class and the instructor was (and this is putting it kindly) a freaking sadistic bitch! I am absolutely convinced that her one goal in life is to inflict as much pain and agony on as many unsuspecting souls as possible, all the while taking extraordinary glee in dressing them down if they don’t hurt quite enough! I hated that woman!!!
And I can’t wait to take her next class. Hehehe
How’s everybody doing? Any success stories to tell? Anyone need any encouragement or support?
At least I haven’t had a pizza in 5 days!!
I’ve lost 20 lbs. in the past month and i’m once again slim. Yay! I have been working Construction for the past month since I am now on Summer break away from school. It’s extremely brutal work, but it pays good for me and I get in great physical shape. Hard physical work IMHO is the best way to get in shape that I have ever seen.
Thanks for the number, Spolvy, much appreciated. And, yes, I do believe that is a fair amount of caffeine!
DRY, thanks! I believe you’re the only one who noticed that.
I decided that I’m probably not going to throw myself a party though. I’m always up for a party, but I don’t have much luck with throwing them for myself. I appreciate your support here on this thread also, my friend.
D Marie, glad to see you back! You sound like you are doing well, over all. It’s been a good weekend so far, kinda slow today for me. Hope to see you posting more now!
Ellen, congrats on losing the 20! Every little bit helps towards our goals, whatever that may be for each of us. Keep up the good work! I will try some of that also, anything to avoid the nasty tap water around here!
Shayna, girlfriend! Happy to hear that!
Now, to just get you to stay away from the pizzas for good… Just kidding.
You’re making a very good start, and it will get easier, I promise. C’mon, we can Oooo and ouch together, in unison. A one, and a two, and a three…Ouch!
I’m still hanging in there. Had a slow day today, didn’t go outside 'cuz it was raining cats and dogs all day long.
I’ve been drinking a lot more water than I ever have before, and I managed to avoid the ice cream my daughter had for a snack today. I have been taking Glucosamine&Chondroitin for my arthritis for about a week now, and I’m already seeing some benefits. I also went back to Motrin and my joints are already feeling better! YIPPEEE!!
And if it doesn’t stop raining soon, I’ll head to the mall to do my walking.
How’s everyone else doing? Anyone? Hello??
{{{{{{{{GroupHugs}}}}}}}}
Hi, it’s me. I am drinking nothing but water this whole week. I am going walking for at least two miles this morning–I’m taking the dog so she can get some exercise too.
Today was my little baby brother’s 21st birthday. We had cake. I ate a piece–it was disgustingly sweet.
I am going to the grocery store tomorrow and I am not coming home with anything processed, if I can help it (hubby may have a request or two)
I vow that my skin will be absolutely yellow by the end of the week because of all the carrots I have eaten!
Hi, all! Sorry I haven’t stopped in for a few days. No real excuse, just get busy with stuff, and forget to come by here. How is everyone doing? Glad to hear from you evilbeth, and I know just what you mean about things you used to love suddenly tasting too sweet now. I’m finding the same thing. It happened to me with salt also.
I’m doing well. No measurable weight loss in pounds, yet, I’m losing inches rigth now, so I’m happy with that. Due to my bruises and arthritis, I haven’t been walking like I should, but I’m working on changing that. I am drinking much more water than I ever have in my life! Great idea, Shayna, about the sport bottle. I drag it with me everywhere now.
Check in with me, please. Anyone. Let me know I’m not alone in here. Let’s not let this slip down so many pages again.
Sorry, I haven’t stopped by in a while, things have been crazy around here, what with the big news about the new baby and all.
I think I still need this group, to encourage me to eat right and keep up the exercise. My goal is to only gain the 20-25 recommended pounds, both for our health and my vanity.
Keep up the good work everybody! Remember to drink that water!
I just wanted to check in and add my continued support for this thread, and the people involved.
I’m trying to cut down on my Shakespeare posts, but this one seemed at least semi appropriate, given the topic at hand:
“Refrain to-night,
And that shall lend a kind of easiness
To the next abstinence: the next more easy;
For use almost can change the stamp of nature”
–Hamlet, Act 3, scene iv
I also wanted to mention that some of you have the added incentive of achieving your goals, what with the Las Vegas doper convention coming up!
As for this:
Turned out to be some “non-event”, huh?
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=27345

WTG Everyone!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I just want to add that you must be really careful when it comes to drinking juice. Although they carry no fat grams a lot of juices, especially specialty juices, have a very high calorie content. In fact, doctors usually suggest juices for those trying to GAIN weight.
Okay, okay. So, pass me the pepper <no salt, not using it> already. Maybe ketchup would help the taste too.
BTW, I liked your quote also.
